Winston was enjoying himself in my garden that I havent had a chance to get into yet. Thought I would post how BIG my perennials are already! OMG I think they are the biggest yet. I have the white bleeding heart, the coral bells, columbine, my beautiful orange Azalea, lilac tree and my favorite the tree peony...you can see how big the buds are already. Oh I guess my real favorite is the BIG brown thing in the pictures...

hazelrunpack May 26th, 2011 11:27 PM

I was really impressed with the bleeding heart, too, Cindy!!! I've never seen one that big!!! And that azalea!!! :cloud9: And yep, there's definitely something about that big brown beauty in the garden that just grabs the heart :flirt:

Great color in your garden already! Mine has some green in it... Had some yellow, but the one clump of blooming daffodils is spent now, so it's back to green.

hazelrunpack May 27th, 2011 09:08 AM

That columbine is gorgeous, Winston! :thumbs up Your pink bleeding heart is pretty big, too! I've always loved bleeding hearts--my pink one is just starting to bloom. Nothing near as big as yours, though! How old are your bleeding hearts, do you know? Do they bloom heavier as they get older?

WOW what a difference a few days of warm weather brings!! My Tree Peony is blooming!~ it smells heavenly! :thumbs up

hazelrunpack June 1st, 2011 04:50 PM

Wow, that's beautiful, Winston! Is that a true peony? If so I can imagine the perfume! :cloud9:

I've never seen yellow peonies before, though! Such a pretty flower!

Winston June 1st, 2011 09:02 PM

Hazel I am not sure what you mean true? it is a tree peony an yes the blooms are so fragrant! I planted a purple and a red/yellow one this year! but it will take many years to get as big as that one...

The best part about the tree peony is that you dont get ants...:thumbs up

hazelrunpack June 1st, 2011 09:06 PM

Are tree peonies real peonies or just a different plant that has blooms that look like peonies? :o Are there actually some peonies that have a woody stem? I've never seen a tree peony in person or known anyone who knew one personally :p but I've always wondered. :D

Winston June 2nd, 2011 05:26 PM

Hazel yes its actually a tree..has the trunk and then the branches but its very think stalks. Theres a few good pics when you google it and look at images.

A friend gave the plant to me about 4 yrs ago and when she brought it over she had somehow divided it into 3 pieces. It looked so ratty that I only took 1 section from her, I gave the other 2 pcs to another neighbour. I so wish I had kept them, because they are expensive to purchase and they are so beautiful in bloom! and the smell !! is beautiful.

I bought another one a couple of weeks ago and it was $40.00  but it will be worth it in the long run.:thumbs up

hazelrunpack June 2nd, 2011 07:18 PM

If I thought it would survive the dogs and/or the deer, I'd try one. :D I'd have to amend our soil, which runs to the acidic--but they are hardy to zone 3 :thumbs up Hmmmm...gonna hafta give it some thought. Maybe there's a safe place somewhere inside the yard... :o

That's a beautiful garden, Winston, and the dog has a really sweet expression. I'm not a lab person but reckon I could fall for him in a heartbeat. I love your two bleeding hearts and the lilac.

Aw, Winston, you look so worried in that last shot! Musta seen some slugs going after Mom's hostas!!!

You do have some lovely hostas, Cindy! And your wild geranium blooms opening up here and there :cloud9:

I think the gardens are going to be dry enough to actually do some work on them today!!! I'm really looking forward to it! :D

Goldfields June 4th, 2011 09:07 PM

Well, I must say I'm impressed. Your garden looks as if it is full of little treasures, just the sort I like to investigate and admire. Such lovely variety in the foliage of the various plants.I can tell that the brown fellow likes to supervise. LOL.
