Chippie...under our deck

3 Attachment(s)
We noticed our cats going a little frantic by the patio-door and we saw this little guy/girl filling his cheeks.
We suspect he/she has a home under our deck.We don't normally get Chipmunks and he's soooo cute.
The shadow in the pick,is Vinnies reflection in the patiodoor,he was dying to get out there:laughing:

Are they endangered? They're so cute I think I'd swap you our koala for them.:D

...:D Wouldn't that be a sight? Look up into a big ol' Scots Pine and see a Koala hanging out!?

I don't know Goldfields that they been officially labelled as endangered in the GTA. They have become extremely rare in urban settings as they are increasingly being driven out by squirrels. Chico would know far more than I on this subject.

I *think* the black squirrels, the more aggressive, are the problem as the browns' population are also waning. In addition, with more and more large urban centres like the GTA using predator birds to control pigeon populations, the little guys like chipmunks and voles become "collateral damage".

We have a few Chippies around Chico.....I love those little guys. In Fall they pack their little chops full from the bird feeders and scurry off into their hole and return for more :cloud9:

Our chipmunks are getting very active again, too, chico! :lovestruck: They're such friendly lil guys!

I think Vinnie and Brier would get along well--Brier is fascinated by the chippies, too! :D

Here our chippies have been busy for the past couple of weeks. Loading up their cheeks with black sunflower seeds and refilling their stashes. It's a race against the red squirrel which gets very expensive to keep stock of seeds, but it's so worth the entertainment ;)
Mitten sits in the sun room windows and GLARES at them, but her days of being an outdoor stray are definitely over.
Now the neighbour's cats have been under the deck hoping to grab a squirrel, so we will be busy installing lots of lattice panels very soon.
Happy Spring !

We've had chippies on our property for over 20 years and I love them! One year we had 11 of them! 10 of them babies and so cute...running all over our patio! LOL

I haven't seen our chippie yet, I think it's still hibernating but the red squirrel is still around. I hope they will be able to get along together as the squirrel is new.

Oh chico, that is Jasper's favourite "play friend". :lovestruck:, they are just so darn cute. :cloud9:. The chippie will stay around if you can give it food without the squirrels around, they chase the chippies away and take their food.

We have hundreds on our property. :cloud9:

*L* that is so cute, I bet the cats want out!! ours are back begging at the patio door again this year, she has a "pot" belly so I know she'll vanish in a few days.

Goldfields, no they aren't endangered, but more and more squirrels are taking over their food source so they move on, we have 4 that hang around here, two that live under our garage with "back doors" near our well, two sides of the garage and under my lilacs, they live in a series of tunnels under ground , quite interesting when you read up about them. The two that live here are released rescues of mine so they aren't scared of Brina or us, hubs will be working under the car and they crawl up his chest and sit as if helping him work *L* when he's welding he has to yell at me to come get them out of the garage and stand guard so they stay out.
