Puppy vomit and diarrhea question
Hey I'm wondering if I should take my puppy to the vet...he is a husky/lab mix at 7weeks. His name is Duke and he is acting quite normal but this morning when I took him out, he pooped a very soft one followed by brown liquid practically shooting out his butt
He seemed fine and played when he was done as usual and then I gave him breakfast and fresh water and played more. He passed out for a bit but I caught him eating his own dry kibble vomit awhile later (partially digested). I watched him for awhile after I cleaned up and he started heaving and gagging a bit (like I would if I vomited) and barfed. I cleaned up and took him outside again and he pooped liquid again. He has not vomited since OR pooped, even with multiple trips outside. He has been sleeping mostly.
Now that you know whats happening to him, tell me if you think this could be the reason..
Last night I brought him with me to my friends place (where Dukes sister lives) and found out this morning that Duke got into some of Clover's puppy food!
Do you think this could be happening because of the food change and that it will pass? Or should I take him to the vet right away?
He seems fine now and playful as usual but I dunno I just dont want him to get sick
Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!
Welcome to the board, duke123.
At 7 wks, he's going to be very susceptible to dehydration if he's both vomiting and having diarrhea. I think it's worth at least a call to the vet, if not an appt. It's possible it's the food, but there are so many serious things that cause diarrhea and vomiting that I'd want to get him checked out by a vet asap.
Make sure he's getting lots of water in the meanwhile. Dehydration can be fatal in small pups.
Please keep us posted on his progress.
Puppy vomit and
If he hasn't has any vaccinations and probably hasn't due to is young age then he shouldn't be socializing with other pets or new environments as he is not protected against parvo or distemper. I would take him to a vet asap if he has any more diarrhea/vomiting.
Thanks for the replies! His poop seems to be returning to normal with less and less liquid and more solid now but stinkier than ever lol. He is also keeping his food down now. He has not had his shots and stuff yet, I have an appointment for monday at the vet so he should be okay and get everything needed. Thanks again, I was hoping it wasnt cause for serious concern!
If he ever gets the runs again you can give him a teaspoon of pumpkin on his food for a few days and it will help! It has to be pure pumpkin and not the pie filling...Any leftovers you can throw them in an ice cube tray and freeze them...once frozen store in a freezer bag.....
What a cute pupper! :thumbs up

????? Sorry, I don't quite understand what you are trying to say here. Also - this thread is from July of last year.
