Help with mixed rescue dog

Can anyone give me their thoughts on what breeds Jeffrey might have in him? We got him as a rescue and his history is unknown.

CUTE!
Face & ears look kind of Collie-like to me...maybe Golden Retriever somewhere in the mix?
Might be easier if you had any full body pics - how big is he?

On second thoughts, maybe the ears are more like a Shepherd's ears, floopy when they are young & then standing up when they get older.
I think I suck at this breed identifying thing.... :o

Thanks for the thoughts Carina. Here is a full body pic. His tail is black and very thin if that helps with the ID. I like the Shepherd angle, that definitely has possibilities...

Your dog looks very "collie" to me. The markings are so similar to either the rough or smooth. Also the ears can flop when collies are pups as well and straighten out as they mature. Very nice expression :-)

OH my goodness he is absolutely ADORABLE!! Oh what a face what a face what a face, great face!!

I agree, I think there's rough collie in there some where!
The paws dont' look big enough to have another large breed in him, maybe something smaller with a smooth coat. The stalkyness (is that a word) of a terrier of some kind maybe.

But you look like you got a sweetheart there

congratulations

Thank you all for your help... my wife thinks he has collie in him (but she is biased having grown up with a shelty). I didn't mention it because I didn't want to throw off the detectives ;) Whatever his background is, you are right that he is adorable! Let's just hope he doesn't outgrow our townhouse + small backyard!

He is very adorable!:)

I have to say he definatly has collie in him. As for what other breeds he has in him I have to say I don't know. Sorry I'm not much help. I do try.:D

It's a little difficult to tell at this age and looking at a digital photo, but there's something about the coloring and markings that remind me a lot of the African Basenji (I think I've spelled that right) that a friend had, so it might be possible there's some of that in the cute pup. The Basenji is a very lean, muscular, medium-sized dog, the same color as this one and with the same coloring on the chest and feet, with similar ears. The Basenji has "expressive eyebrows" and don't bark, they make a different kind of sound.

Something to consider - another possibility to put in the stew. You could read more about the Basenji here...

Likely the more dominant influences will become more evident with maturity.

I'm going to have to totally disagree about the basenji influence, I'm afraid. Having owned a basenji, nothing about that dog says basenji to me at all. I think it looks like a pretty standard collie mix puppy, probably with GSD and maybe something else too. Very cute, but I really doubt there is any basenji in that dog.
