Charlie and Tiger's update..# ?

Well after 4-5 months ( Lost track) I am happy to report that Charlie, one of the "Homeless 5" is finally allowing me to get down on my elbows, next to him. A few weeks ago I would have had my eyes torn out. He now allows me to get down (although he never looks me in the eye) and pet him...and he does purrr while I do it:D
At feeding time they both meet me at the top of the stairs, but have yet to come on the second part of the staircase...all in due time, I guess.
I am ignoring Tiger somewhat becasue I have noticed that he takes his Q's from Charlie, so If I can get Charlie on my side then Tiger will be next in line:D
Charlie finally sleeps on the chair which is a big step from under the chair:rolleyes: and when I see them from outside my window ( and It is getting cold out there, but worth it) they play with each other; so I know they are haing fun, just not with the rest of us..I think these 2 will always be "a cat's cat and not a people cat" so be it. I won't get the cuddles but Atleast I got them purring:p

Yay, Charlie! I can only imagine how patient you have to be to tame a feral cat, cpietra! (I've never had cats and I sure as tootin' don't have much patience. :D ) But it sounds like it's going pretty well. I'm impressed that he not only lets you get close like that but he purrs while you're petting him!

Good work! :thumbs up

It must be very satisfying to watch them play :cloud9: --even if you do have to sneak a peak from outside to do it. :D

You never know, what time will bring Maya my greyhound took almost 2 years before she would let me walk up to her and touch her without trying to run, now she is bouncing all over me and loves to head wrestle in bed and then cuddles and falls asleep with her head on my belly

Every cold windy day, i look outside into the alley from my window and am so thankful their footprints are not there to map out the path leading under the patio.

Thank you cpietra,

update #3

Well it's been 8 months and how are they doing?

Well Charlie and Tiger are doing well. I had their stool sample analyzed a few weeks ago and it came back fine...no parasites. However they still have runny stools...so now I have to have them really trust me so that I can take them in. I changed their food but no change yet in their stool.

So back to the update...

As some of you remember Charlie and Tiger are staying with me and its been 8 months and these cats are really very "don't need humans to survive " kind of cats. I have a feeling if they ever escaped my home today they would never come back, at least not now.
So lets continue with where thay are today.....
At the beginning.....
For the first 2 months Charlie ( not pictured yet) was in hiding/
Charlie only ate when I left the area.

FInally Charlie came out and started eating with me around
...but hissed at me

now 8 months later I gave Charlie a tummy rub. A very short one becasue once he realized that the hand that was rubbing was actually attached to me he bolted...but at least I did it..:thumbs up

Tiger in the other had always comes for her head rub, but never on any other part of her body. She always comes to me. If I approach she will bolt.

Tiger always leaves me walking backwards so that I don't touch her body....fortunately she is starting to trust me because yesterday she actually turned around to leave which gave me a great opportunity to grab a "Kling On" ( for you who may not know this, a kling on is a clump of poop tangled up in a cats hair , usually around the tail area)

Tiger hissed at me after 8 months because she had a 'Kling on" attached to her tail and it was big...so when she turned around to leave I grabbed it with my hand ( that I washed later for a few minutes:yuck: ) and yanked it off...she really did not like it and today she was back to leaving me by walking backwards again...oh well
Here is a picture of Tiger sun bathing in my basement which she has yet to leave....

CPietra, thank you very much for the update:thumbs up
I would think it's not very encouraging that they still have not made much progress in becoming cuddle-bums:sad: kudos to you for not giving up,where others probably would have.
Tiger is sooo beautiful,I wish they would understand how wonderful their lives could be,if they were friendlier.
It must be difficult to deal with them for so long in a seperate room, hope you have a big house.
What do you think the future will be for these babies??Will they ever come around??
As for bellyrubs:cat: my cats are not too fond of them either, except Vinnie, who likes rubs wherever he can get them:laughing:
:grouphug: to you for beeing who you are!

cpietra16 March 24th, 2007 11:11 AM

Chico, I never get discouraged. I know some cats are not very "People" cats. I think eventually Charlie will come around, but Tiger walks to her owner drummer. I need to respect that. Besides I have enough cuddles with my other guys:thumbs up
My only focus is to have them trust enough to come up from the basement. Strangely enough my other cats never venture down stairs anymore either...oh well its definately a cats world that I will never some to understand.
As to my house its beyond small...its very tiny. My kids have given up their playroom in the basement and have yet to get it back...but they know what I am trying to do and with Charlie and Tiger time is the trick...at least I hope

TeriM March 24th, 2007 12:10 PM

Good work Cpietra, sounds like you are making slow but steady progress :thumbs up .

rainbow March 24th, 2007 12:48 PM

WOW....eight months is a long time. I know you have lots of patience  but you must have a very patient husband as well. :)

Good luck with Tiger and Charlie.........I hope they both will soon come to realize that you deserve their trust. :fingerscr :fingerscr  :goodvibes: :goodvibes:

mummummum March 24th, 2007 01:19 PM

Where is the smiley for "you have the patience of saint and the unconditional devotion and love of a dog" ?

Thank you cpietra ~ the world is a richer place for having people like you who have such an abundance of unconditional love for animals.

Dracko March 24th, 2007 01:50 PM

Tiger is absolutely gorgeous. The fur looks rip for petting. Too bad you can't

Koodos to you for your love and patience towards them. I could handle having a cat who wasn't all that affectionate and understand that is the way they are. Well, as long as it was balanced out with cats who were affectionate so I could get my "fix." :lovestruck:

chico2 March 24th, 2007 03:28 PM

CPietra,I know I've asked this before, but do you ever hear from Cat-Snatcher,does she ask about Charlie and Tiger?

cpietra16 March 24th, 2007 03:45 PM

Yes Chico always...she msn's me when I'm online and she'll ask

chico2 March 24th, 2007 03:47 PM

That's great,Thank's !! Hopefully she doing good!!

Frenchy March 24th, 2007 03:49 PM

Wow, Tiger's a beauty ! Good work and yes, you have the patience of a saint ! Tiger may never come around, one of my cats I had years ago, was like that. And she wasn't even a feral ! I adopted her as a kitten. The first time she lay beside me on the couch, she was about 7 years old !!! All the vets hated her  But they are cats and you have so sometimes let them be :cat: Tiger must be so happy to have a home now :cloud9:

By the way that is not dandruff..its pine cat litter which I can't vacumm because that would scare the #@$% out of them and take them back 4 months...and what's a little cat litter betweeen friends anyway:D
