gagging...

my 4 month old basset hound (Charlie) was vomiting last saturday...we took him to the vet and after a weekend of going back and forth to the vet & emergency hospital and they did bloodwork, xrays & meds (fluids & meds to stop throwing up) a barrium xray showed something in his stomach (the vet guessed possibly a piece of plastic or material) and we were told that it was moving through the intestines and he should pass it in 24-48 hrs. We were also told that the barrium solution soothes the stomach...we took him home Monday evening, and he was back to normal...we slowly reintroduced his food to him....its now been 3 days and he is having bowl movements, but we have not noticed anything not natural in his BMs...he has seemed fine until today, every now and then today he will gag and heave like a cat does with a hairball and try and throw up but nothing comes up. And then its like he gets the hiccups. He is still eating, drinking, and having BMs and urinating....he has not vommited at all and he doesn't have a fever and doesn't seem to act like he is ill...I'm not sure what to do at this point...Im not sure if another vet trip is necessary or if maybe he is still recovering...

Oh and when he starts gagging, he will walk around compulsivly licking things...licking everything, the walls, the floor, the air...the vet on the weekend told us that compulstive licking means they are nauseaus...

Does anyone have any advice here?

I would like to take him back to the vet, but I dont want to do it prematurely since he seems fine elsewhere except these boughts of gagging/hiccups. My husband has not been too impressed with all the vet bills this last weekend has brought on...but our little Charlie is family...we can't not help him! :(
