Sam's eye

Sam's eye was red Thursday evening, I wa ssure it was an infection, been there with Daisy, Bailey and one foster , so I tried ointment I had left , and waited 24 hours. It was still red so this morning I went to the vet (not my regular vet) and he saw something that I didn't ; an ulcer  my heart stopped. But the vet told me this could resorb with meds. So I have eye drops for him , 5 to 7 times a day (Gentocin) and I have to bring back Sam Monday after work. Anyone ever been there ? What to do think the chances are that it will be ok with just the meds ?

The chances are good! :thumbs up

Does the vet know how he hurt the eye? Scrape? Grit?

We have the occasional brush with damaged corneas every year--they just play so darn hard, and there are a lot of blackberry and raspberry bushes in the woods. The Gentocin is great! After a few days, Sam will likely not even remember it's there! :grouphug:

angeldogs June 16th, 2007 01:25 PM

Poor Sam.i hope the drops work and sam gets better soon.

chico2 June 16th, 2007 04:27 PM

:fingerscr that Sam will be fine:fingerscr

Hunter's_owner June 16th, 2007 07:28 PM

Poor Sam:sad:
Hopefully the meds will clear it up fast:fingerscr

Frenchy June 16th, 2007 11:14 PM

Well, Sam is being a good boy about it, vet told me if I could give him the meds 7 times a day , it would be better , so I did. It's easier to put drops than it was with the ointment for the other dogs. I do hope this will clear up , I know how expensive it is to see a specialist, I had an appointment for Daisy last year but then her cancer came back so I canceled. Gosh it's just one thing after another, sometimes I think I'm the one who bring my dogs bad luck  But hey, it's not Monday yet so I will keep :fingerscr

Does his eye seem any better? :fingerscr It can take a day or two for the healing to progress enough so that his eye feels better.

Maybe a tiny bit .... I can't wait to see it tomorrow, hope to see a difference. :fingerscr

Frenchy June 17th, 2007 11:10 AM

Sam's eye is not better this morning. Still the same. Still have until tomorrow evening to get better. I really tought I would have seen a difference this morning.

erykah1310 June 17th, 2007 11:20 AM

:grouphug: Frenchy, its not you bringing your dogs bad luck. It just seems that way from time to time.
I too have thought, "why do my dogs get sick and have to run to the vets when people who dont hardly remember they have a dog, have healthy ones?"
I guess its just fate, we end up with the ones who need our help the most.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything clears up soon. :fingerscr

hazelrunpack June 17th, 2007 11:48 AM

Eyes take a while, Frenchy. :fingerscr  :goodvibes: that it's better by morning! :grouphug:

Exactly , so unfair ! I hate this constent feeling of being worried about one of the fuzbutts. I also think they might have hookworms, that would explain the gastro they had , but my vet didn't see nothing in Sam and Bailey's stools. Will have to have a talk with him tomorrow. So I may have to go to 2 different vet clinics tomorrow. And the "pimple" in Bailey's eye, my vet said it bugs ME more that it bugs Bailey and it's not serious enough to have him put under to take it out. argggg !

chico2 June 17th, 2007 04:02 PM

Frenchy,I am sooo sorry,but I am sure he'll be fine:fingerscr
The difference between us,who care and worry and people who don't is,that they might find their dog/cat one day dead, from something that with vet-care could have been cured, but again,it probably did not bother them much:sad:

jesse's mommy June 17th, 2007 04:15 PM

Oh poor Sam. Give him a big hug from me and the wigglebum. :grouphug:

CyberKitten June 17th, 2007 05:42 PM

I hope Sam will be fine - I am sure he will - it's natural to worry but it sounds as tho you are doing all the right things - as far as I know (I am not a vet, lol). Give him a hug for me!!

It's not better , but I spoke to my regular vet this morning and unlike the other vet , mine explained to me there was probably nothing to worry about, (my vet knows I need constant reassuring when it comes to my dogs :p )Sam probably got something in his eye (I suspected it could be a tail from an excited great dane that can whip you easely, ouch!) I will still go to the other vet after work.
I will go to my vet wenesday with Sam's poop sample , but he doesn't think my dogs have hookworms.

Frenchy June 18th, 2007 07:16 PM

Sam's eye was better when I got home, the vet tought it looked great so I have to keep giving him the drops 5 times a day and go back in a week , wooohoo ! :thumbs up

That's great Frenchy! :highfive: whew, eh? I found out some good news today, too--those 5 ear infections I thought we had? Just an irritation from the solution I was using to clean the Pack's ears. (Another :highfive:)

So we both got good news from the vet today! :thumbs up

TeriM June 19th, 2007 10:59 PM

Glad Sam is feeling better :thumbs up .

rainbow June 20th, 2007 12:51 AM

YAY Sam. :highfive:

Hunter's_owner June 20th, 2007 06:33 AM

Yey for Sam:highfive: that is great news Frenchy:)

Hazel that is also good news that the packs ears were not infected after all:highfive:

hazelrunpack June 20th, 2007 07:42 AM

How's Sam's eye this morning, Frenchy? He should be feeling a bit better by now! :fingerscr

And you just keep on worrying about your dogs. If we hadn't worried and watched and noticed very slight symptoms, Lil Belle would likely be dead or greatly impaired from Lyme's and Cole would be the same from anaplasmosis. Chico's right--the ones who hardly remember they have pets are the ones who'll run out of luck eventually and lose them to something preventable! :frustrated:

he he Yep, HO...that ear news was some of the best news of the week :thumbs up
