Enough exercise for dachshund and beagle?

My mini-dachshund stays inside all day with my small beagle. When I'm home, they play constantly: running back and forth, playing chase, play-fighting, etc. I assume they do the same thing (if not more) when we aren't home during the day. Our apartment complex isn't that safe at night, and when my husband isn't home, I only walk them long enough to finish their 'business.' They do seem tired at night and ready for sleep. Is it OK that we don't really walk them all that much? I don't want them to be unhealthy.

I also have a mini-dachsie and a beagle. They also play all day together (mostly fight) while we're gone. We had the same problem at first living in a downtown apartment and we just couldn't seem to find the time to walk them.

On nights where we could take them out, we would take them for extra long walks and hang out in the park for awhile to give them some play time. When we're at home with them, we will often encourage them to be active with us as well as each other.

Our beagle was starting to get chubby towards then end, until we bought our house last summer, but now they both get regular walks.

It's definitely unhealthy for them to not get any exercise, but I think as long as you encourage them to run around more instead of laying around, then it should be okay.;)

Any clue as to where I can get a mini-dachshund puppy or age between 6months-1year would be greatly appreciated, live in the Toronto area
