My girls new favorite treats; Dried Cod Fish Skins!!!
Anyone ever heard of Catch of the Day treats by Dog Nip? They are dried cod fish skins that are coiled up in the size of a 50-cent piece. My dogs' favorite treats used to be Lamb Lung, but the other day I found these dried cod fish skins and now this is their obvious favorite. As I write this, they are right next to me waiting for me to give them one. They REALLY stink and look totally disgusting (worse than Lamb Lung)--anyone seen these before???

Aren't they great ? We get salmon skins as well. And yup, they're shhhhmelly.

Are they packaged salmon skins? If so, what is the name of them? The bag the cod fish skins comes in is so small and I would love to get them some salmon ones. Please let me know because they love them and they are such a healthy snack! :)

I've never tried those ones, I get my pooches one called Salmon Snacks, they love them, and I love that there are no preservatives or additives, and the main and ONLY ingredient is wild pacific salmon. They're just little strips of dried salmon, even the cats love them.
I'm going to look for those the next time I go to get doggy treats though. |
Yup, I'm pretty sure that's the one Papillonmama. Has anyone ever dehydrated their own? I don't buy enough whole fish to do it but my gang go la-la over anything fishy I should probably go to a fishmonger to see if I can cadge some "skin only please, hold the fish". :D

I make my own and they are super easy:

I was looking for those salmon treats and came across dried salmon skin rolls. They are just like the cod skins, only salmon. They are by a company called Ifex; never heard of it. If interested, here is the website:

I wonder....is there a difference, nutritionally, between cod and salmon for dogs? Is one better than the other? Rainbow, a few questions about your recipe for salmon snacks. Could you purchase fresh salmon and simply dehydrate the fish instead of baking it, as mummummum inquired? Have you tried that? |
Gomez loves them also, they are called "Sea Biscuit" or "Sea Jerky" over here - he could eat a whole bag if we let him...
BUT.... there is always a but, isn't there? If he eats too many at one time, he gets the runs, and it's very obvious what the cause is, b/c there are bits of "jellyfied" fish skins and the odour is very distinctive!!! Of course, Gomez weighs 16 pounds and "too much" is more than one or two a day, but worth thinking about anyway... |
