The bendy house is torn to smithereens!!

Actually, it's just that the renovations are in full swing, but OMD it's insane around here!!!

We've ripped up our old wood floors:

under which we've discovered the most delightful :yuck: peel-n-stick laminate tiles...(happily our flooring contractor says we can leave it in...but we do need a new layer of subfloor on top to even things out a bit )

We are painting new doors for our walk-in pantry:

I've been practicing my circus act whilst painting and re-sealing the skylights...

General chaos abounds right now, it's just nuts...

To top it all off, the little backhoe showed up yesterday to start digging up our foundation (our basement is a tad, er "damp"...by which I mean "flooded every time it rains")

I never knew how much dirt could be hauled out of a two-foot wide trench!

My contractor was kind enough to carefully remove and set aside the few little flowers I'd planted at the side of the house, so I potted them up...

YIKES! chaos indeed! But just think of how nice it will be once all finished!
Gorgeous house by the way, is it an old schoolhouse? I love the high ceilings, skylights, and the colour scheme!
What do the furkids think of it all??

bendyfoot August 6th, 2009 09:26 AM

Yep, it's a 100-year-old schoolhouse!

Thanks for the compliment on the colour scheme! It was a HUGE change from what we got when we moved in...which was mostly flowery wallpaper and lavender paint :yuck: with dark purple trim on all the moldings!!!:yuck:

The furkids are pretty used to this kinda nonsense, we've been renovating for the past 5 years  This is the "last" big push to the finish, when we finally called in the pros to get the rest done :thumbs up

Chris21711 August 6th, 2009 09:27 AM

You brave, brave women, going through that kind of upheaval....last year we had our bedroom taped and plastered and I don't have the courage to get the rest of the upstairs done...the mess was a bloody nightmare

On the upside, the girls will have plenty to sniff :D

bendyfoot August 6th, 2009 09:30 AM

OMG I totally hear you about the drywalling...we've done quite a bit and it's a total DISASTER!!! Not for the faint of heart for sure (hopefully never again!)

Chris21711 August 6th, 2009 09:47 AM

Our bedroom is 14' x 14', it took the dude 1 whole week to do it, no drywalling, just the taping and plastering...the rest of the upstairs that needs doing is an open area about the same size and the staircase, I can't bring myself to say go ahead, no, no, no :yuck:
Yep, it's a 100-year-old schoolhouse!
WOW !!!! That's exactely the type of house I'm looking for :cloud9: love love yours :lovestruck:

and call me crazy but I would have kept the old wood floors , I just love them :cloud9: to me it screams cozy and doggy friendly :D

bendyfoot August 6th, 2009 10:45 AM

The floors were just sooooo worn and squeeky and uneven and full of gaps...the amount of dog hair and godknowswhat between the cracks when we pulled it up was just :yuck: Totally not cool. It found a home though a friend came and took it away with the intention of installing and refinishing it at her place.

The new wood that's coming is a matte (not shiny) "antique oak"...it's kinda rough-looking and feeling, not smooth at all, and a medium dark colour, so it should look ok even with dog nail marks

BenMax August 6th, 2009 11:01 AM

I distinctly remember months back discussing your floors on TJT with Aslan...and Aslan and I agreed to keep the floors. So did I miss something and you made a decision without us??

Gorgeous house as is, can't wait to see the end result.

Bailey_ August 6th, 2009 11:03 AM

I adore your place!! :lovestruck: Those skylights are AWESOME!!! Jealous!

You must be confuzled, BenMax, I DISTINCTLY remember both you gals saying, "Bendy, you're a genius in every way, of COURSE you should remove those horrid, nasty floors and put new ones in".

OMG I don't think we'll be doing any more jobs of this nature for a looooooong time!!! Ask aslan!!!

I think you MUST be confusing that statement with MaxBen and Nalsa! I recall (and please correct me if I am wrong) that Aslan AND myself (that being BenMax) stated that you would be CRAZY to change your floors. Infact I believe that Aslan 'suggested' to strip them and then stain them. You complained however that the wood is soft and the dogs nails mark them. And then Aslan provided you with a solution as to what you would use to harden the floor...

Yep, yep...I DO recall the above. As for MaxBen and Nalsa - heck what do they know?:frustrated:

*pats BenMax soothingly on the back*

There, there, little BenMax, it's ok to have The Crazy every now and then. You're imagining things again...
Um, let's not...:p
Thought so..:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Anyways Bendyfoot - your house is charming. I am sure your new floors will look spectacular...and you never know - I may just be eating crow once completed.

rainbow August 6th, 2009 01:57 PM

LOL bendy & benmax ....thanks for the laughs about the flooring discussion :D and I even remember aslan trying to convince you to keep the old ones.

I also really love your house and colour scheme. :cloud9: I must say though, that you would never catch me on that ladder.

Looking forward to the final results. :goodvibes:

bendyfoot August 6th, 2009 01:59 PM

Yeah that ladder kinda scared the :censored: out of me, but I really had no choice, it's the most :censored: awkward place ever to try to paint :frustrated:

Oh, and obviously you were hallucinating at the time these so-called "conversations" took place between me, BenMax and aslan...

rainbow August 6th, 2009 02:05 PM

Nope ....my hallucinating days are long over :D ......but I did enjoy them at the time.

BenMax August 6th, 2009 02:43 PM

Rainbow -don't you find it interesting that she 'assumes' that we used mind altering drugs...is she implying that our 'age' has something to do with it??? Very very interesting. I guess Bendyfoot is still into her glow sticks and funky music -it obviously affected her reading and hearing abilities.:D

Dog Dancer August 6th, 2009 03:11 PM

Bendy it looks lovely. I can relate though about the reno's. We're sooooo close to the end of reno's after two full years. I don't know how it happened, but my son who has always been afraid of heights is a painter now, so he gets to do all my ladder work! Yay... I could never go up that one - nope. Now I say we're close to the end of the reno's, but we do still have some old hardwood floors... Relax BenMax, I want to sand and refinish mine - if I can live with more dust again. That may be a next year kinda project though. Keep up the good work Bendy, it looks marvelous. I love the house too - structurally - just beautiful.

I plead the fifth.

I AM the contractor, at least for that part, and yes we salvaged it, and yes it's gone to a new home where it will be much appreciated and not to a dumpster or burn pile. Promise.
