Latest bird bath.

LOL:. This will not be everyone's cup of tea but it sort of suits this country area I live in. The base of this bird bath is a tree with the old swagman leaning against it, swag beside him, ditto for his dog and billy. Nice and solid so that might stop Roo from knocking the top off it, he likes to drink out of them. :D (Eeewww! Drinking someone else's bath water.)
Not much happening in the garden, too cold.

Jull June 27th, 2013 11:39 AM

I love it! :thumbs up my bird bath is as simple as it could get, and I am not crazy about it, specially not after seeing this one./

ownedbycats June 27th, 2013 11:46 AM

That's a nice one. I tend to prefer simple over elaborate, (although as long as I don't have to put it on my lawn, whatever makes you happy) but that scene is well done.

Very nice bird bath...is made of concrete or molded resin?

Dog Dancer June 27th, 2013 03:47 PM

I like your birdbath GF. Nikki drinks out of our little water fountain at the front of the house too. But he's tall enough not to knock it over. That said, one day there was a birdie drumstick in it :yuck:. Don't know how that got there, but it was nasty. My bee's drink from the water fountain so my biggest worry is Nikki getting stung while he's having a lap.

Barkingdog June 27th, 2013 03:54 PM

That is a lot fancier than my birdbaths but the birds use it anyway. I like your a lot better. My dog Marty likes to taste other dogs pee, that is gross!

Goldfields June 27th, 2013 07:02 PM

CsqU4r3d, it's concrete and very heavy. I have 3 others, a couple that are plain and simple but they are easily knocked over, so I liked this one for the width of the base. The top is nice, not a scooped out bowl type, the sides are vertical and the bottom is flat. Might be wrong but I think little birds might cope with that better. I will be going back, when I can afford it, to buy a statue, life size, of a cattle dog, and I have asked my sister(an artist) to paint the tan markings on it for me. LOL. DD, the bees here seem to favor one side of the horse troughs. It's like the ponies and bees respect each other's space and won't use the other critter's trough.
Oh, the guy suggested a bird bath that actually had a bird sitting on it but the bird was a KOOKABURRA, which are predatory, so no smaller bird would ever go near such a bird bath. LOL.

I just found a utube of a KOOKABURRA and boy they're loud. The yellow jackets like to drink out of my birdbath I saw one on the edge taking a drink on a very hot day.

Nice and solid-looking, GF. Cool scene for the base, too. :D If the basin is very deep, though, it's best to put a flat rock or some stones in the middle of it so little birds have a shallow place to bathe. Most birds aren't good swimmers and little ones can get waterlogged and drown if the water is too deep. :o

Goldfields June 28th, 2013 01:12 AM

That top looks deep, Hazel, but isn't, instead the bottom of it is quite thick. The water will be deeper in my other 3 in fact.
Kooka's are noisy, Barkingdog, especially when a few get together and start.

I guess you do not need an alarm clock to wake you up in the morning if you have a few Kookas in your yard.

Goldfields June 28th, 2013 09:53 AM

Can't say I ever hear them in the mornings. They are sometimes here during the day. Used to love them until I learnt they kill other bird's babies. :(

Goldfields July 26th, 2013 09:26 PM

Roo finally did in one of my bird baths. Not happy with him. He knocked the top off getting a drink and it hit the base and broke it. We do have Liquid Nails to repair the base with, wish me luck.

Dog Dancer July 31st, 2013 11:11 AM

How'd your repair go GF??

Goldfields August 1st, 2013 09:32 AM

Brilliant! All fixed. :) He's entered a very destructive stage so if the weather stays good I might take him back to obedience for the next 4 weeks, try and improve his manners before I leave him for a few days.

hazelrunpack August 1st, 2013 01:27 PM

You were able to fix it with the Liquid Nails? Awesome! I've not had much luck with that in the past...

Here's a photo, you can even see the line of glue around the base where I haven't had a chance to file it smooth. Note that the red devil is up to his old tricks.:D It may break again I guess if he keeps this up.

hazelrunpack August 2nd, 2013 01:39 PM

 He's one persistent fella! :D

lindapalm August 2nd, 2013 02:40 PM

You might as well just put the top on the ground, you know hes going to knock it over again. What would he do with a kids pool, would he get in it?

Jull August 2nd, 2013 02:43 PM

a very handsome little !!

He sure it ! I think he very cute too. He busting with personality.

Goldfields August 2nd, 2013 11:34 PM

Oh, he is just so naughty! He has most of one of the bedrooms here for his big pen, with stuff stored around the walls(our junk room). So, before I got up this morning I hear what sounds like clinking chains. Go have a look and here are 4 stainless steel chains, plus the remains of a plastic bag they were in. Couldn't think at first what they were, then realised they were bench chains from when we showed dogs at the Royal Melbourne show. I would not have been able to find them but he DID, and how he reached them I'll never know, ditto for how much of the plastic bag he has ingested. I had to clean his entire pen, with his paper shredded like confetti, (so he can 'bury' his beef bones), looking for the remains of the plastic.
Lindapalm, good suggestion about putting the top of the birdbath on the ground, better than what a friend here suggested, hot wiring it. :D He's got a pool but in the depths of Winter it is out of bounds.
