Choke chains for puppies - Re-Sheesh
 

I decided against it. If someone recommends an item such as choke chain for a puppy they are loonie toons. I pulled him out of the obedience class before Moses and I even began. This prooves to me that obviously this person has no concern for a puppys' neck. We are going somewhere else other issues are maintained. He has to start the second class as I have already taught him quite allot of basics.:cloud9:

I have recently had to use a choke chain for my pup but we worked with the gentle leader for many months. Have you tried one of those? some folks call them a halty but I honestly like the gentle leader brand best.

The choke chain has worked for me so far but my dog is a lab and even the choke chain sometimes doesnt even phase her. If you pup is small then I would reccomend a gentle leader they work very well.

The choke chain imo, does have its place in a few situations but on a puppy is never one of them...

If you have the budget and are at a loss for quality resources I highly recommend the video or DVD from tenderfoot training. The video shows you how to train your dog and establish leadership.

I have gone to pet store and had been provided with a collar that has a chain in center. The purpose of this collar is it makes a noise in the ear harmfull but suppost to be good for training. I would also like to find out about this DVD you are mentioning, the obedience classes support positive reinforcement the other one is plain brutal hence not going. Moses deserves the best and if there is a possibility I could do it alone then I would rather do it that way. He still requires socialization around people without going show should I put this cuckoo thank you

PLEASE NO CHOKE CHAINS!!!!!

They cause such damage to the dogs trachea and muscles around the neck that some countries in Europe have banned them. They should be banned everywhere.

The collar you are speaking of with the short section of chain is called a Martingale. It utilizes the sound of the choke chain without the damage to the neck - providing the part of the collar that cinches up on the neck is at least 3/4" wide and stiff.

We believe if you are training properly then you should only need a flat, wide, stiff collar which disperses the energy and does no harm.
