So pretty!

And ravenous! They went through a gallon (about 4 litres) of nectar today...and we're nowhere near the peak of the migration!

Oy!!

Wonderful pics hazel!! I love hummers. :cloud9: We don't get near enough of them here. Thank you so much for sharing yours!!! :thumbs up

luckypenny August 1st, 2009 10:29 PM

Those are the most awesome photos, Hazel!! They're sooooo beautiful :lovestruck:.

hazelrunpack August 1st, 2009 10:30 PM

I'm sure there'll be lots more...so check back frequently. The migration is only about 4 days old! And a gallon already! :yell:

Thank heaven hubby found the large-capacity feeders. :o

rainbow August 1st, 2009 10:59 PM

I absolutely love those close-up shots. :cloud9:

We get very few hummers here  so I always love seeing the pics of yours. :lovestruck:

hazelrunpack August 1st, 2009 11:04 PM

I wish I could post the sounds they make. All the chittering...and the humming, of course...but also a jet-fighter sound as they zoom in around the corner of the house and zero in on a feeder. :cloud9:

rainbow August 1st, 2009 11:09 PM

Doesn't your video camera pick it up?

hazelrunpack August 1st, 2009 11:18 PM

I think it does...except I don't recall ever hearing that jet fighter noise. :D

There are some videos of hummers that I've posted...might be a sound track on some of them. Hmmmm...where's growler? She actually knows the links to the videos! I think I lost my list of them when my old computer died... :o

hazelrunpack August 1st, 2009 11:29 PM

Here...does this one have sound?

Frenzy at the feeders...

There should be some more that you can get to from that page, too...

rainbow August 1st, 2009 11:36 PM

Those ones are great. :cloud9:

I only found the ones from from 2006 ...

All three hummer videos are finally ready! :o

The first was from last summer--mostly local youngsters coming to the feeders before migration. I thought there were pretty many then:

http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=535022

...but pretty soon, the migration started:
http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=536259

...and then they just kept coming out of nowhere!:
http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=536339

A lot of those birds are back already--I've already had to put out all three feeders and fill them at least once a day! It's going to be an exhausting nectar replenishing summer but it's worth it to me! :D :lovestruck:

hazelrunpack August 1st, 2009 11:42 PM

Oh, wow...I never thought of looking for old threads here. :o

I went to Yahoo! Video, played around till I finally hit the right logon and password combination  and then scrolled till I found one that looked like it might have been shot close enough to have sound. :o I can't tell for certain, though, since I can't play them once I upload them :wall:

rainbow August 1st, 2009 11:48 PM

Well I'm glad that we both found some for everyone that missed them to enjoy. :cloud9:

growler~GateKeeper August 2nd, 2009 06:31 PM

I think this is the one you're looking for: A summer hummer at Hazel Run 8-11-07 :D

and this one has some good sound too: Hummers in the morning sun at Hazel Run 8-17-07

mollywog August 2nd, 2009 06:38 PM

That is amazing!! I've never seen such a thing.. whenever I see them, they just come one at a time, although I haven't seen any at our new house yet
We just planted a whole new flower bed with Foxglove and Bellflowers :thumbs up so hopefully that will attract them, since the feeder is right beside the bed.
Thanks for sharing, Hazel!

hazelrunpack August 2nd, 2009 09:04 PM

Mollywog, if you wanna come help fill feeders, you can see them firsthand! :D Bring Molly, too. She'd have a blast! :thumbs up

Thanks for finding the links, growler! When my old machine died, I lost the file where I kept the uploaded videos. :frustrated: For some unfathomable reason (probably cuz I figured they were safe out on Yahoo! Video) I didn't back that file up  Very unhazel-like...unless I put them on a disk and then forgot where I put the disk. :o That's been known to happen.

Dee-O-Gee August 3rd, 2009 08:08 PM

OMG Hazel--you're so lucky to have all them beautiful birds around. Stunning videos as well!

Ho hum...none for me this year  but I'm gonna keep trying! :thumbs up

hazelrunpack August 3rd, 2009 10:16 PM

They're moving through here in numbers this week. Every time I change a feeder, hazel is mesmerized by the humming and the chittering and the zzzzrrrooooooming and we spend way more time standing in the hummingbird garden watching the show than I have time for. :o But who could resist?! :cloud9:

This evening, one curious young male was giving me the once-over, hovering in front of my face for about a minute and a half, trying to figure out what strange kind of hummingbird I was (I was humming Ave Maria at the time--a classic hummingbird tune. :D) It's just fascinating watching them up close like that. Unfortunately, the camera doesn't focus at such a short distance. :o

Dog Dancer August 4th, 2009 01:13 PM

Wow if I see two of these a year I count myself lucky! Those videos are stunning. How very cool.

I'm still looking for helpers to fill feeders, DD! :thumbs up So any time you wanna stop over to watch them in person, you'd be welcome! :D

I just got this shot today--it's just spectacular when it fills my screen...less so when reduced, but still... :cloud9:

I'm really lovin' the new camera! :o

Dee-O-Gee August 5th, 2009 05:39 PM

Oh Madame--that is such a stunning picture. :cloud9:

I'll have to save it into my pictures and use it as a desktop display after I'm finished looking at Mollie's display! :D

hazelrunpack August 5th, 2009 08:40 PM

I can maybe manage to send you a slightly larger version by email... :thumbs up I'll give it a try and see what my modem is capable of tonight! :D
I can maybe manage to send you a slightly larger version by email... :thumbs up I'll give it a try and see what my modem is capable of tonight! :D
That would be so kewl. Hopefully my e-mail will allow the size.

hazelrunpack August 5th, 2009 08:48 PM

It was only 146KB :o Even so, my modem is smokin'

I cropped out some of the feeder, too.

Dee-O-Gee August 5th, 2009 08:55 PM

Thank you so much Hazel!!! I'll check it out! :thumbs up
