need help with Montreal dog training school
 

Hi,

I'm looking for a training school for my Min Pin (Piccolo).
I deciding between Gaby Popper's school and Blue Ribbon Canine Center.

The teaching is quite different between the two.

Gaby Popper really knows his stuff. I was really amaze how he can communicate with a dog without talking. He took any dog from the class. Walked them and them made them, sit, lie down, come, stay all using his eyes.

Anyone has experience taking his classes?

I also checked out a school in Dorval, Blue Ribbon Canine Center. Anyone been there before?

Essentially, I want a class, that's able to get my min pin to behave with other dogs and animals when I tell him to. He's easily distracted, and scares away my 5 year old Pomeranian. I also want Piccolo to socialize with other animals too since he's at his critical age of 4 months.

How do you guys usually decide which school to go to?

do they have websites? you could ask to go sit in on a class and see there techniques in person and deside which oyu like better, also get three references from people who went to the school and see what they think.

What are the differences in their training methods/philosophies? That would be the big question for me, and I second the suggestion of going to sit in on a class.

I have used blueribbon for all my training, I love them, they also compete their own dogs :)

Several years ago, I contacted Jean Donaldson (originally from Montreal, now the Director of Education at the San Francisco SPCA and author of [I]The Culture Clash[/I] among many other books and articles) ) for referrals to training schools in the Montreal area. She recommended Positive Canine (classses held both in Beaconsfield and Montreal West) and Guides Canins in St-Lazare. For obvious reasons, you may also want to look into these schools as well as the ones you've already found.

I already sat in Gaby Popper's and Blue Ribbon's class. Teaching method was quite different and I couldn't decide which one to pick.

I'll take a look into the two other schools luckypenny suggested.

Gaby Popper was amazing. Our biggest problems were as simple as pulling on the leash & jumping up when we walked in the door. This became very frustrating. Training on our own was definitely not working so we had to turn to a personal trainer in the area. Gaby really made us understand what we were doing wrong. A fresh set of eyes can often help you see what you been missing in your training.

I highly recommend Gaby and his rates is very affordable. group classes are $150 tx included. On top of that if for any reason, you wish to repeat the complete course, he allows you to do so at no cost.
