Sick cat - someone please help!

My cat has seen a vet and they can't figure out what the problem is! He is a 16 lb 2-year-old male. He has been vomitting 3-4 times a day for about 3 weeks. He is losing weight (8 ounces in a week) and doesn't want to eat. The vet gave him a parasite shot, a topical parasite solution, and did x-rays and blood work. The x-rays are fine, but he has a fever and an elevated white blood cell level. He is on antibiotics but it isn't working! He is waiting to see a specialist, but I was hoping someone might be able to help in the meantime. Please respond - he is loved and I want him to be ok.

I'm sorry to hear that your cat is sick. When was he given the antibiotics?

He has been on them for 3 days now. He is starting to get lethargic and won't even get out of his bed to vomit. He just does it right there without moving. I'm getting really desperate.

I'm sorry, but that does not sound good at all. If you are able to, please get your cat to an Emergency Vet ASAP!!!!!

Prayers and positive thoughts on the way that your cat is going to be okay and virtual {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}} for you.

Hi Ealicea
My advice after recently going thru a terrible illness with my cat would be to go back to the vet as soon as you can. My cat was hospitalized for 2 days. It was the safest place for her to be. Constant vomiting and high fever would be difficult for you to treat at home.
Prayers for you both tonight.

Did your vet check for diabetes or do a specific thyroid test?

Hi

I'm no cat expert, but when my cat was very ill, vomiting a few times a day, not eating, losing weight he was hospitalized and put on iv, he was actually in hospital for a week. They ran all kinds of tests and finally thought it was inflammed bowel disease he did start out with bladder crystals but got sick again afterwards. He has been on predizone every day ever since. That was about 3 or 4 years ago so I can't remember all the things they tried. But it was very scary.
Maybe u could ask your vet about inflammed bowel disease.

I sure hope he will be ok, poor little guy.

The vet did test for thyroid and diabetes, and all tests were normal. He ate a little this morning, and he is going to a specialist for an ultrasound today, but it's not moving quickly enough. I will ask about the bowel thing. Any direction at all would really help at this point.

If it is a virus, then antibiotics will not help, the kitty has to fight it on it's own. Was he not eating anything at all and finally ate something this morning? If so, that is good news and sounds like your kitty may be on the mend. Did the vet give subq fluids daily when your kitty was vomitting and not eating? Dehydration can make a kitty feel worse when they are sick. I would ask the vet to do some if he/she hasn't already.

Hi Ealicea,
How is your cat doing? Did you find out what the problem was?
