20 month old urinating in sleep
After having a UTI that was treated, my 20 month old pointer mix pees in her sleep. It's is only occurring after we have been at the dog park where she plays a lot and drinks a lot of water. When we get home she is exhausted and crashes....that is when the urinating happens. I have noticed on days we don't go to the park it doesn't happen. Is it normal to pee like this just because she drank a lot of water while playing?

welcome to the board, dmruti. is your dog spayed? there is a thing called spay incontinence, and altho its not very commonly seen at 20 mos, it's not unheard of at that age, either. there are a couple of easy treatment options you can get from your vet if that's the problem.

try making her go out an go the bathroom before just letting her crash. as she may not have really went before coming home. I know a lab i watch if i dont make sure he goes to the bathroom before being brought in the house after playing big time he will have accident in his kennel cause he forgets to go while out.

I'm with Hazel wanting to know if she's spayed. One of my past dogs had spay incontinence and it started very young. Treatment with Stilbesterol (sp?), an estrogen pill, worked great. Very cheap too. Ask your vet about it.

No, not really normal....
Has she been checked for a UTI? That would be the first rule-out. Spay incontincence can also be helped with phytoestrogens like flax, but I would want to rule out an infection, or other congenital abnormalities, or other issues like vaginitis. |
