Woman Attacked by a Pack of Raccoons!!

scary but many animals do this because they feel threaten with other animals or even people.

My son and his wife insist on feeding 5-10 of them in their backyard each day. I keep telling them even the cute ones attack, but they will not listen to me. I can only hope nothing ever happens.

This is amazing, I just thought they were super cute lil critters, didn't realise they can attack and cause that sort of damage.

It doesn't happen often, GF, but as with all wild animals, they will defend themselves and their young. This time of year there are kits out and I suspect the coons were defending young ones. Raccoons can be large--30 pounds or better--so they can be formidable when they feel threatened.

Not only that the wild lives are losing their habitat and are being pushed closer to our homes . I find some animals are losing their fear of people as they less land to hunt on and have go where the food is, and sadly that food is people pets. We have a coyote that cut right through our driveway , I was talking to my neighbors and the coyote just ran right pass us. I had never seen a coyote get that close to people before. I was told by a wildlife expert
to carry a big walking stick when I take walks in the woods with my dog. I was to use to the stick to made sounds to frighten away an animal or to fight it of if needed to.

Wow those are some heavy wounds that were inflicted on that poor girl.

I was out scouting for late night photography locations last night.
The "lookout" on Mount -Royal was infested with raccoons. there must have been 30 of them all going through the garbage. They were BIG.
They freaked me right out and did NOT respond to sharp noises that i tried to make to get them to go away. In fact they weren't the least bit afraid of me.
I think they taunted me actually...calling me baldy, and making chicken noises.
I was not able to take even 1 image.

LOL Marko, you're funny! But yes, raccoons will stand their ground. In this story it said a couple ran up a tree and her dog was chasing them, I think these were adults protecting kits like Hazel mentioned. She's very lucky they didn't get to her face! We have many in our neighbourhood also, I see them often when I'm out with Halo in the morning. Raccoons , skunks and every now and then a couple of coyotes.

Poor marko! I hope you reported the raccoons for bullying you. When I was trying to trap a homeless cat a raccoon got trapped instead , I did not let it out of the trap. I tried to call the ACO with no luck and had to call the polices. I guess you will have to carry some pepper spray when you go out . Yeah, that is what I am talking about , the wild animals are getting very bold and losing their fear of people . A seagull flew right down and took my grandchild sandwich right out of her hands . She was lucky and was not hurt!
The city should put some some warning signs about the raccoons before someone is badly hurt or a child get killed. I am glad you are OK!
