What to feed a new puppy?

Gosh, I am so confused! I have been reading the information on the board but have to say I am very confused as to what to feed my new puppy when we get her. I have prepared my own dog food before for another dog we had but would like to know what prepared foods are better than others. I see some names for pet food like Evo and Nutra and I haven't seen those in the stores (maybe I have but have been overwhelmed by all the other brands). I would like to have some prepared food on hand but have used Dr. Harvey's mix previously. Any suggestions?

Where do you live? (and welcome!!! :D) What shopping options do you have? It is very confusing isn't it?

I feed Horizon's kibble with Merrick canned. But have tried Orijen kibble, Evo canned, and Nutro Kibble as well. She did well on most. Some of the grain fee food are hard to get use to tummy wise, feeding amounts need adjusting according to formation of poops, grocery store brands are bad - full if fillers and byproducts, as are vet reccomended perscription brands unless its what your dog needs to get thru a certain illness..hense perscription formulas.

What size/breed pup will you be getting?

I just saw your intro, a golden puppy!!!! :cloud9: :lovestruck:

Do you know what the breeder is currently feeding? When we first got Dazy I brought sample bags with me to the vets and we picked out a kind together (altho they push their food too ), a large breed formula should be reccomended to help with the growth of a very active puppers!

You will not find the better brands in the supermarket or places like Walmart or even most large pet stores. You have to go to a local independent pet store in your area.

I have never heard of Dr. Harvey's mix.

I feed both my dogs Orijen (www.championpetfoods.com) and they do great on it. As well as Horizon and Horizon Legacy (www.horizonpetfood.com) some other brands are Innova and EVO (www.naturapet.com), Go Natural (www.petcurean.com) and Wellness (www.omhpet.com).

Also, not all dogs do well on the same food so sometimes you have to try a few to find one that suits your dog. If you do have to switch brands just make sure to do it gradually. :pawprint:

Here's the website for Dr. Harvey's. I fed it to my older golden when he was sick.
