Who is feeding tripe?
 

I have strated feeding my girls pure green unbleached tripe. They love it. I feed them the tripe once a day and then the other meal is meaty bones. Im wondering how many others are feeding tripe and are you feeding it to your dogs daily? Are you seeing positive results? I had one source for tripe that i was buying in batches of 50 pounds but tried another supplier this week. The new suppliers tripe is much better and isnt weighted down by water. It is pure tripe.:thumbs up

I haven't tried feeding tripe yet! ooooeeeee! but know I should....is there a source in southern Ontario other than the canned variety

Green tripe, once a week.
 

Phoebe gets one full meal of green tripe once a week. We can purcahse 1 lb frozen blocks of ground green lamb tripe at our local raw pet food store, Buddies Natural Pet Food, in Saanich BC. I don't know if there is any difference in adding a little to each meal or one full meal of green tripe once a week. As long as it's the equivalent of one full meal a week, that's all that matters.

I'm having a hard time finding anything other than canned in Eastern ON :sad:

we are feeding the regular supermarket raw tripe... its white not green....

I hate to tell you but there is little no no nutritional benefit to feeding the white tripe. Sorry.

You need to find a source for raw unbleached green tripe.

And here i was thinking he was getting raw nutritional tripe... :shrug:

no, sadly the white stuff is bleached and devoid of nutrients. You need to get it basically unprocessed, green (still containing stomach contents) in order to make it worthwhile. :sad:

we don't buy the fresh, we get the canned and wholy increase in zoomies. Oh and Chris the visual you have is exactly what it smells like...I've decided the worse something looks or smells the more the dogs like it.

The first time I bought it, the guy at the store swore up and down it "didn't really smell that bad". I told him he was a bald-faced liar the next time I saw him. :yuck::laughing:

It does smell pretty bad but honestly you get used to it. The tripe i purchased the first time was somewhat watery and very moist. The new tripe i have purchased is very chunky, meaty, and Im guessing very chewy. My dogs love it. They get fed this once a day and get their chicken and bone meal at the other meal of the day. Anybody want a bite?

I gotta say it does look better than the canned, and not sure my nose will ever get used to the fragrant aroma.

Is that the green tripe? Looks more beige to me... I was picturing something poisonous green from all the comments you guys make about its smell :D

Regardless of the smell, it [I]looks[/I] like something dogs would love to eat.

the stuff we get is more greenish..but the difference in bailey is worth the smell

So if you're feeding raw, does that count as an organ or a muscle?

i'm going to vote organ, but i could be wrong, and semi digested grasses. eeew ach gag.

The word Green does not refer to the color of the food. It refers to the fact that it is unprocessed and is natural. Thus it has all of the nutrients and has not been stripped of all of the good stuff. Im not sure that this counts as organ. I along with others that i know feed this once a day to our dogs. We are also rotating in another product which is a mixture of tripe, beef trachea, ground bone, and egg. It also also pretty pungent but has the added benefit of the trachea which is very good for joints, hips, etc. They get a roll of this every 3rd day instaed of tripe. It doesnt bother me to smell it or touch it but what does get me is whn one of the girls has had a big bowl full and they want to show their appreciation by giving a wet sloppy tripe stinking kiss.

I would count it as "offal" or organ.

What are you paying/lb for these delicacies, [B]3GD[/B]?

I purchased 600 pounds last week from a friend in New York. Shipping included it was about $1.75 per pound. I am finding many people that want to start feeding it to their dogs but have no supplier for the food. It seems hard to find and when you do find it, shipping can be more than the actual meat itself. Im in the process of finding another freezer so i can purchase more and will be providing it to others.

Green tripe is reported to be the perfect food for the canine. Recently, an analysis of a sample of the packaged frozen tripe was performed by Woodson-Tenant Laboratories, Inc. in Georgia. The results were what many people had speculated but never proven with scientific fact.

The calcium:phosphorous ratio is indeed 1:1, the overall pH is on the acidic side which is better for digestion, protein is 15.1, fat 11.7 and of course it contained the essential fatty acids, Linoleic and Linolenic, in their recommended proportions.

What was surprising to find, was the presence of Lactic Acid Bacteria. Lactic Acid Bacteria, also known as Lactobacillus Acidophilus, is the good intestinal bacteria. It is the main ingredient in probiotics.

Green tripe is also loaded with gastric enzymes, amino acids, and other gastric “juices”. The gastric enzymes not only help the cow in digestion, but also aid the canine in digesting and efficiently utilizing his food. I've been feeding tripe,but didn't realize they are supposed to get it every day. Use canned, don't have any more freezer space..sigh. You types iwth 600 lbs of tripe must have HUGE freezers and big houses..lol

I wish I could feed green tripe ( - the smell) but have yet to find where to get it in the Montreal area....
