Flint River Ranch - Fish & Chips
Has anyone tried this formula or have experience with this company? The cost for a 40 lb. bag is $57 USD and about $67 CAD. Free shipping in the US! I'm going to email them for costs of shipping to Toronto. The kibble is twice oven-basked rather than extruded.

I bet it would be pretty expensive to ship to Canada. I also think the protein level is too low.
|
Agreed it is a low percentage. According to them, because their kibble is oven baked rather than extruded, it's more digestible. I'm not that worried about the protein level given all the other healthy snacks my brrod get along the way.
I've just opened my last 33 ponder of TO and I don't think I wanto buy another. But, I've exhausted pretty much all the other fish-based, no corn etc. alternatives available in Toronto short of having to return to home-cooked. |
You'll be glad to hear that Orijen is coming out with a salmon based dog kibble. :highfive:
|
It looks kind of grainy to me, mumX3. Especially for the price.
But given your food issues, it's sure worth looking into-and you can always add more protein, right? No Canadian distributor? |

Ooo-oooo... *runs off to the Orijen site* No Canadian distributer that I can see Skryker but, I've included that in my email. I can always buy by the skid-load I guess. |
Um... Can you list what you've tried so far? And what your doggies can't have?
This one is oats, oats and more oats. :o |
No beef, chicken or lamb. We've tried bison, elk ~ wouldn't touch it.
No corn or wheat. Oats, rice, hemp seed and potato/ sweet potato seem to be okay. As for the fishy guys we've tried, I'm not sure I can remember them all ~ if it is in a petfood store in Toronto ~ we've tried it! Fromm's, Go ! DVP, Timberwolf, ... that's the extent of my memory. My concerns about TO as a company aside, their stools are very soft and have been for the last three or four bags. So, I want to change anyway. |
Did you try California Natural Herring & Sweet Potato ?
http://www.californianaturalpet.com/products/default.asp?id=1326 (ingredients are near the bottom) |
Yeah...sorry, I honestly can't remember them all (I had to go to the website to see what the bag looked like ). When I was making the switch from home-cooked to kibble I read everything here, everything on the pet food project and scoured every store in Toronto even trying brands that mixed fish with another protein. I don't believe dawgz should be vegan
Any idea when Orijen is going to release their salmon-based food ? The problem with the fishy ones other than TO is they just don't want it. |
Rainbow's the one with the scoop on new releases.:o
|
You've done Go! Natural salmon?

Oh, I saw the little Go! in your list. Sorry! :o :footinmouth:

I heard from Flint River Ranch ~ not available to Canucks.
Rainbow, if you're out there ~ any idea when Orijen is going to release their fishy food ? Any hopes it will be in the next week ? |
Flint River is very grainy, and their advertising methods are a little odd. It's like they leave it up to their distributors to advertise.
We got a bag of the fish and chips donated to the shelter once. It was better than the food we had at the time so I decided to go ahead and feed it. Well all but 2 of the dogs got horrendous diarrhea. One of them was so bad she had to go on flagyl. I switched them to other foods, and the diarrhea stopped. Actually the worst dog I switched to Evo, I wasn't sure if she would be able to handle it, but as soon as she was on 100% Evo, the diarrhea stopped. So I definitely think it was the food. |
Thanks SableCollie ~ doesn't look like it's going to be an option for us anyhow!

He's usually good about answering quickly so I'll post as soon as I get a reply. :) |
Thanks Rainbow ! Should I be sorry to hear about your CRAFT ? I'm so senile I can't remember a flipping thing about CRAFT   :clown:

Glad I'm not the only one that has it. :D
