Dog sick from ocean water?

We've just moved to the beach and my dog absolutely loves it! He's had some stomach problems, though. Last night, he had a bowel movement (not diarrhea, but not a normal one either) in his sleep on the couch. Luckily, I had a blanket on the couch.

He chases the waves as they break and then bites them. Could the saltwater be making him sick? And if so, how do I keep him from ingesting it? I hate to not let him go to the ocean anymore cause it's his absolute favorite thing.

Thanks for the help!

Too much salt water is very dangerous for dogs.

Drinking too much can cause upset stomach and dehydration.

It is also bad for sensitive paws and ears.

Make sure you hose off a dog who has played in salt water.

Also make sure he is drinking enough fresh water.

I'd keep a good eye on your dog the next time he plays in the ocean. Another problem like the one you had and I'd definitely consult with a vet.

Best of luck
