Backyard Friends Shelter - has anyone heard of?
 

I was just on Petfinder.com and found a kitten the color that I want! I will admit to being ver specific about my animals. All of my animals have been specific .... my first cat was a pure white female, my second, a pure grey female. My mother chooses the sex, as she has a thing against males. Since I share the house with the parents, i sorta gotta play by thier rules in regards to that. I have been looking for a Cream (or light ginger, buff, light organe, however you want tosay) female. They have a cream lil one born 6 days ago, waiting to hear back on sex.

MY QUESTION IS, has anyone heard of this shelter? What types of questions should I ask? I have adopted my cats from the OSPCA, but that was 6 years ago, and so I am unsure of the questions I should as a shelter.
Any advice is appreciated

your best bet is to go and take a look at the shelter, unannounced

look at its clenliness, look at how the workers are handling the animals

check out how the animals are, are they clean do they seem happy or in distress, does the rescue have a preferred vet, I know the rescue i got my cat from preferred a certain vet and that vet gave us a discount on her spay and vax and microchipping.

i visited a few times, and even tho the kitten was 6 months old i diddnt pick her up right away I wanted to visit her in her setting a few times.

and later the lady who ran the rescue checked up on the kitten, and we even sent her pics of the cat by email once the cat settled in.


BTW for anyone in Hamilton the rescue was angel animal rescue, and I highly reccomend them!!


Also check to see that they prefer the animal be spayed or neutered, and microchipped!

the kitten that i was looking at there is already spoken for (dammit!) but good to know what i should be asking shelters if i find one in the future

Backyard is not a name I would choose in naming a shelter, gheez, what are they thinking? They may well be a fine shelter tho, I do not know. Have you looked at Siamese rescue in manitoba - they will ship kittens but not adults. Or Alley Cats in TO (I think I said Abbey Cats before, lol). (I am thinking of that poem from the Romantic era, Shelley or Keats>)

Or any SPCA where the cat may not have much time left.

Yeah, i didn't like the shelter name much.
I am actually looking for a specific color of cat. This probably sounds strange.
All of my cats, when I have decided to get them, I have been specific. I wanted a pure white female as my first cat, and had her name Missy before even getting her. (she has passed, due to cancer)
Haylee, I had her named, and wanted a grey tiger strip.
This one, i want a light orange color, some people call it cream or buff ... its pretty hard to find for the most part.
Looking for a fw months now. looking all over SW Ontario and even into TO.
I'll find one eventually.

I have to admit that i don't like siamese all that much, they look freaky to me. Sorry!

freaky!! Hmmmmphhhhh! I think all cats are cute but Siamese are the most beautiful! We all have different opinions. Why freaky? There are so many breeds with points - Tokinese, Burmese, Ragdolls and that is just a few? Why single out my poor baby's breed?

All through history and until quite recently (historically speaking) Siamese cats looked just like any other cat, except for the colour and the eyes. Here is an old fashioned "Applehead" Siamese, which by the way cannot compete in the show ring:

That look wasn't good enough for breeders, who felt they had to make a more extreme cat, although the Siamese most of us see are somewhere in between Applehead and this show champion, which many people might see as a little "freaky".:D

Every cat is beautiful if he's yours!!

Its the Blue eyes that get me, they are georgeous

I once had a dog that had one beautiful blue eye, and a brown eye.


but yeah beauty totally is in the eye of the beholder.

Thts why i said sorry CK!!! I know you have one! I'm sorry! thier face is was too angular for me! It just looks... yucky to me! They have gorgeaus eyes, ... I just, can't get over the face being that angular.

I like Tonkinese ... they aren't as angular.
See the difference? a lot less angular.

I dunno.. siamese have always freaked me out! I'm sorry!
