Eye problem

Hi there,
Our puppy has something wrong with one of his eyes. I have looked up various dog eye problems but none of the pictures look like his eye. I will be taking him to the vet tomorrow, but was hoping to get at least an idea of what it might be. I have attached a couple pics of his eye: I appreciate any thoughts, I am really worried about him :( Thanks! Danielle |
Oooh I just found a website that mentioned "cherry eye" and the pics look just like Ryder's eye. Sigh...I was really hoping it was something that would not be expensive to fix :(

That does indeed look like a cherry eye. Most respond favorably to surgery with an experienced surgeon. Luckily - it is neither painful nor does it threaten vision. Good luck. :pawprint:

It does look like Cherry Eye, but it might also be a defect in the cartilage of the nictitating membrane. One of our long-ago setters had that.
Likely it will need a surgical fix, but maybe it won't be too expensive :fingerscr He sure is a little doll! :flirt: |
Good call hazelpackrun. The deformation of the "T" cartilage can be a cause for eversion of the cherry eye and on rare occasion it can be a primary condition. It can be fixed at the same time as the cherry eye (actually if it is abnormal, it must be addressed to help prevent the cherry eye from reprolapse. Luckily it is a straight forward procedure usually. Many times there is not an additional charge. Nice to hear other people talking about the cartilage though - rare for people to have heard of it.

Our little genetic anomaly, Evan, had the problem  In his short lifetime, he taught us more than we ever wished to learn, poor dear... :o
