Cranberry juice

Hi, A friend of my gives her dog cranberry juice, she said it helps with preventing bladder infections. We got into a big agruement because I said I didn't think it was good for her boxer to have cranberry juice, she said it was ok because she read it off the internet, which I kindly reminder that not everything on the internet is true. Could someone please tell me if its ok or no ok for dogs in general to have cranberry juice.

Thanks

cranberry is effective, yes. I wouldn't give it in juice form though. juice is high in sugar and calories (and honestly, I don't know many dogs who'd like the taste of it)

there are other ways to get the benefits of cranberry. supplements and foods that contain natural cranberry extract would be a better idea than juice. For appropriate dosing and what types would be best your pet, I'd suggest speaking with a homeopathic vet.

Personally I think the best way to keep UTIs under control is ample clean, fresh, cold water available, and frequent potty breaks.

It's not going to hurt the dog, BUT, it would take a heck of a lot of cranberry juice to do any good. If your friend is worried about bladder infection prevention, cranberry extract is a better option.

I guest she was right, about the cranberry part and not about the juice.

My vet recommended it for my doberman and he also said that if she won't drink it, to give her the cranberry capsules.

cranberry juice

The health foods store I shop at has pure cranberry juice with no sugar added. (I bought it for my pet, but once I got used to the tartness, I drink it now too.)

You'll do far more good with cranberry pills than juice. Nonetheless, I LOVE the juice!

I had a foster pup that had frequent UTI's and submissive urinating. I gave him cranberry capsules.
