Dog Ate Blue Rodent Poison - Anybody Experience Ths Before?
 

My dog accidentally found and ate two cubes of blue rodent poison on Tuesday night. I took him to the emergency vet clinic and they made him vomit. Now, my regular vet wants to give him vitamin K1 as a follow up treatment. I talked to an exterminator and he said that the stuff won't kill a dog of my unless he cuts himself.

I've bene through this before in the past and know that besides the drama of it all, it's extremely costly.

Has anyone ever been through this before in terms of their dog eating rodent poison? What happened and how did you treat them?

He's has two bottles of activated charchol, and I'm looking into alternatives to the vets advise which is to give him vitamin K1. I'm surfing the web to find out if I can go to the health food store and buy it myself as it's cheaper.

The whole emergency vet thing cost $300 and I cannot afford another $200 for the treatment but am in a bind.

Any suggestions?

I can't offer any advice about buying it from an online pharmacy, or the drug store down the street, as opposed to the Vet's office. I've seen enough emergency shows on TV to know: the activated charcoal is used to make your dog vomit and neutralize any poison that remains in his stomach. Vitamin K is used to rid the blood stream of any poison that may remain. Since you don't know if your dog is going to cut itself while outside, inside, or just bite his tongue, it's best to follow the advice of your Vet. I'm sure your Vet will allow payment options for the treatment. Keep in mind...I'm not a Vet! I'm just saying what I saw on animal emergency shows on TV. Always discuss things with a qualified Vet above all else!

You could always discuss it with your Vet. Not all of them are just out to make a quick buck. Some will tell you if alternative medicine would work for your particular situation. Mine could have charged me through the nose for steroid shots for my dog's allergies. Instead he told me what to buy from the local pharmacy (at a fraction of the price) and I haven't regretted it.

I'm sorry to hear your pup is sickly from the poison. I cetainly hope he's feeling better soon! :sick:
