Snow and cold

We had some forewarning of things to come.
By the end of November, temps were already below normal. Ice sculptures began to appear in the oddest places... And December started with the gift of an Alberta clipper (yes, they really call them that here :D). It left everything bright and new and cheerful. The morning after the storm finally ended,
the dogs came out with hazel into the cold, cold predawn darkness to start the shovelling. "Not sure I like this, Mom!" But once the sun came up, it sure all was purdy!!! :flirt: |

At least there's something to admire while shovelling the deck... :D (yes, that's it, that's all...until the next storm rolls through...) |
Hazel,,,that sure looks pretty,,,,I think it looks prettier at your place too. :D
|
It was beautiful that first morning. Now it's starting to look disheveled...and of course there are those yellow polkadots here and there
|
As pretty as that is I am shivering just looking at those pics!! Brrrrrr!!
|
Beautiful, just beautiful. I have to say, I hate driving in the stuff, but sure love looking at it's beauty when it is freshly fallen.
|
Wow that looks very pretty!
|
Beautiful cold and brrrrr-skee pictures hazel even though I can't stand the cold. Oh yeah, ......:yell:
I think we're in for a traditional white Christmas this year which is one thing I like about the wintery white stuff (and the only one). :D |
It's been a little warmer the past few days--not enough to melt much except on the roof, but enough to make it feel much damper! Not a good change, imo. :D Two other nice things about the snow, besides the beauty: (1) Clean paws, always a plus in this house  and (2) the finches are swarming the feeders! :lovestruck:

Finally have time to download your photo's, Hazel. The ice sculpture - Wow! how cold does it have to be to freeze running water? Love the one where the snow has set in, but then those with the sun on the snow are lovely too. In the photo of the dogs at the gate, the one with the green collar, is it making a snowman? ROFL.
The photo of the dog sitting where you shovelled makes me feel like "Aaaw, poor baby, come back inside in the warm". The fir trees with their load of snow are just beautiful and the last couple I think show what a good fall it was. No-one will be sitting and swinging on that garden seat for a while. LOL. It's all such a pure lovely white, I am very envious of all you lucky people who get snow, especially when it is going to be 42C here tomorrow. (sob!) (107F) |
Oy! Too hot for hazel's taste.... Did you survive? :goodvibes:
I think it got down to about -17 F the night before I took the pic of the water spout. I think it had been raining the day before. It doesn't freeze solid like that all at once--but if there's a drip or even a slow-moving trickle, it freezes on the ice already hanging from the spout and adds to the sculpture. :D I think that's Macie making the snowdog. LOL Nah...she was just whapping at the snow boulder. They like to break pieces off and eat them. Unfortunately, it irritates their throats and makes them cough all evening. Glad you enjoyed the snow. :D It's raining today :( And tomorrow... Then Saturday the high is going to be 17 F again and everything will freeze rock solid and slick. *sigh* |

Get a couple of empty dish soap containers, add warm water, a few drops of soap, and food coloring. Mix gently and get out there and squirt colorful spots of water so the yellow ones blend in :D. It is still 41C, Hazel , and though the heat won't kill me, getting rid of this lot below might. You get a lovely covering of snow and the only covering we get is that cursed Fairy grass. I think it got down to about -17 F the night before I took the pic of the water spout. We know that Hazel, aka she-who-can-teach-her-dogs-to - pirouette, also taught Macie to make snowmen, or snowdogs. :D Glad you enjoyed the snow. :D It's raining today :( And tomorrow... They don't like the feel of it, the ponies. Be careful once it gets icy. |
