What age do puppies get rabies shots

Sorry gang, I did search but didnt find any timeline of when a puppy is allowed to get rabies shots. I have no vet here but the local clinic has rabies shots for dogs. The doctor isnt sure either what age. Im sure its been covered befor but I couldnt find it. Thanks for the help.

That is not my experience. My pups both had their first rabies shot at 4 months, when they completed their round of shots for everything else. Not sure why it was different with my vet.

Ok thanks, I thought it was 4 months as well but wasnt sure, anyone know what happens if given at 3 months, Im going to the USA in 1 month and the shots have to be given 30 days prior to bringing a dog in the US?

The puppy vaccines are done in 3 sets usually unless the puppy had the first one too early and in that case they would have 4. The first is the combo booster done at 8 wks. The second is the same booster plus extras such as leptospirosis and bordetella which is done one month after the first or 12 wks and the third is done one month later or 16 wks. It includes the final booster as well as part two to lepto and the rabies. After these sets the pup will then go on a yearly basis, one visit to do all the vaccines. The rabies may be set up for longer than a year. This is usually determined at the 1 yr vaccines.

ready this post is surprising how different vet clinics are in their practice, and how it it really differs from province to province

The vets here aren't on very often... I looked at it and it seems ok. Not too extreme, but informative.

This is a good site for pet health: http://www.marvistavet.com/
