This is something I've often wondered as well. Why is it so frightening to us, that other creatures might feel and consider and problem solve? It's very bizarre.

My belief as to why this happens is, it's easier to disregard, neglect, abuse and take advantage of something you make yourself believe doesn't have feelings or heaven forbid, is more intelligent than you.
