paralysed back leg - cat
 

A few weeks ago, my 12 year-old cat came in from outdoors, and he was dragging his back left leg. I took him to my vet right away and had him ex-rayed and examined. There was no break and no indication of a sprain. The vet said the paralysis may have been the result of a stroke.

Grinch (my cat) is still dragging his back leg. Is there a brace that I can order to help him distribute his weight evenly, that might ease his discomfort? Note, my vet is a 'country' style doctor, and does not have any information of such a brace for me. I have seen these types of braces in animal magazines, but do not know how or where to find out more information.

Ive heard of these little wheel chairs that you put your animals back end in so they dont have to use their backlegs.

But im not sure that ive seen them for cats.. but ill check it out and see what i can come up with (note im not a vet)

Im sure a dog one would work alright seeing it is measured by weight.


One thing that you might want to consider is that your cat is 12 years old... she might not be comfortable or be able to get used to having something attached to her and she may find it rather annoying.

If your vet hasnt suggested anything and hasnt put your cat on any medication for pain then im sure she is alright and the limp will probably go away on its on in a little while.

Maybe you should just keep her in the house for awhile and give her some extra care. :)

Just so you know,

even if the limp stays, your cat will get used to it and support more with the other legs.....that'a what happened to my cat when she got hit by a car and had to have one of her legs amputated.

but now she's fine
