Help

We have a robin that keeps coming to our livingroom windowand in 2 days has made such a mess, not to mention getting on our nerves. How do we stop him from flying at the window.

He loves theowl we put out, uses it as a nice landing and ****ting spot.

Help any suggestions.

Winston April 20th, 2011 02:54 PM

Sylvie is the Robin flying into the window or just sitting on the edge of the windowsill?

hazelrunpack April 20th, 2011 02:55 PM

Is he displaying at the window, Sylvie? If so, he sees his reflection--break up the reflection and he'll stop fighting himself. :D One way to do that, if you don't mind not having a clear view for a while, is to soap the outside of the window. Once the robin has moved on, just rinse the soap off :thumbs up

Or are they building a nest somewhere nearby?

Winston April 20th, 2011 02:59 PM

Great minds think alike Hazel! :thumbs up :D except I was thinking tinfoil in the window so he cant see himself and the tinfoil maybe as a distraction?

Maybe she likes your DH and is giving him a show or he is giving you a show??

Sylvie April 20th, 2011 03:01 PM

Not sure what is going on Hazel, he is flying up and down the window. I am sure they have nests galore out back (there are hundreds of birds and lots of trees.

We had a cardinal who did the same thing, although he also would sit on the window and look in, this robin just flies up and down the window.

Will see what we can do with the soap tomorrow. The view is disgusting right now as the window is so dirty (he did this in just 2 days) I am ready to ring his neck. :D

hazelrunpack April 20th, 2011 03:01 PM

It does sound like display. He sees himself as a rival. :D Soaping the window or even putting up tinfoil or cardboard on the outside of the window should quickly get him out of the habit. Once he can't see himself, he'll move on. You have to break up the reflection on the outside, though--putting something on the inside of the glass won't break up the light bouncing off the outside.

You type faster, though :D

Sylvie give the Robin 5 minutes with Shadow......:laughing:

Sylvie April 20th, 2011 03:32 PM

Nowadays it would have to be 5 hours :laughing:

Melinda April 20th, 2011 03:40 PM

you can hang old cd's at the window, we've had 3 robins the last 3 days smash against our house, this has never happened before, there is no window on the south side, all 3 killed themselves....odd

chico2 April 20th, 2011 04:12 PM

Oh no Melinda,that's terrible:(
I believe mating-season is now in full speed, once it's over I am sure the Robin will find other things to do,like taking care of his babies:)
But if you really hate dirty windows, covering it on the outside is your best bet..I hope you were only joking when you said you'll wring his neck..

hazelrunpack April 20th, 2011 05:02 PM

Oh, what a shame, Melinda! I almost got hit while I was out raking yesterday--two robins swooped through in the heat of combat and whizzed by so close that I could feel the wind from their wings! They just don't pay attention when they're dealing with a rival--I wonder if that's what's going on at your house? :(

Sylvie April 20th, 2011 07:34 PM

Oh, Chico of course I was kidding, I love all animals.

But, you would not believe the mess he has made in 2 days. I want my cardinal back. He was a pest also, but did not make the mess that the Robin has made.

Winston April 20th, 2011 07:43 PM

Sylvie I know what you mean about a mess. We had a nest built on the front porch light one year and it was too late to do anything as there we babes in the nest. Once they were gone we changed the style of the porch light so that there really isnt a flat area to build on.

I have been feeding the birds the past couple of months and I was really happy to see about 20 cardinals out there the other day enjoying all the black seeds! there were many of each male and female and some wee little babies for sure. Also had some other pretty little birds but I dont know what they are. Will have to try and take a pc!!

Hve you decided if your gonna use soap? I could come by and have some fun......:D:laughing:

you are lucky.. I get pigeons

Sylvie April 22nd, 2011 08:02 AM

:laughing:Problem solved.:thumbs up We put up sheets on the outside of the window. Then he moved to the dining room sliding doors.:frustrated: We put up a sheet on the doors also. Have not heard him since. OMG he made such a mess of the window and the deck. We had to move the Bar B Q or it would have been covered in bird poop:eek: I can't believe that one bird can make such a mess in a few days

Blame it on HAARP... they seem to get the blame for everything bird or weather related in the conspiracy theorists world

hazelrunpack April 22nd, 2011 10:35 AM

Glad you had enough spare sheets to fix the problem, Sylvie! :D We don't have that problem with robins, but the goldfinches like to perch on the handle of the Weber...they're plenty poopy, too... :frustrated:

Shaykeija April 22nd, 2011 10:53 AM
