Bruised tail
Hi Pets.ca,
Can you give me some suggestions :lightbulb: on what to do for an active tail as Duke my lab keeps whacking his tail into stuff and I think it is getting bruised. Thank-you |
Is he young? I found as my Lab matured simple everyday things became usual to him and he didn't wag as much. Other than making life too boring to wag at I have no idea what you can do. I know it can be serious if they hurt that tail as the tail is hard to heal and amputations from bad damage have happened. Rare I think, mostly it's the house that gets damaged. No low knicknacks on the coffee table.

Bubble wrap the tail. But seriously, just keep stuff high so he doesn't break stuff, and I agree with Longblades, in time he'll learn to control himself a bit more. Be happy that he is happy and remember that your dog wags his tail with his heart. Having just lost our old lab, I know their tails are very hard if you get whacked!

Duke is 5 and he keeps hitting his tail on many things like tables and chairs. He has a really strong wagging tail. Maybe bubble wrap around the the table but I think he will try to eat it. Any other advice would be great.
Thank you! |
There isnt much you can do to stop him from wagging his tail. He is happy and being a dog.

I think protecting (with wrapping or something soft) whatever dooger is hitting his tail on, just might be the easiest solution. Good luck!

What makes you think Duke's tail is bruised? Labs have a fairly thick tail as well as quite a lot of fur so I'm wondering if you have seen a bruise?

I know it's a bruise because it looks like one. But I solved this a little bit by moving tables and other furniture around by a dfew inches and it really helps.
