Oven-Baked Tradition
Just got Buster back from a new groomer (must say he is looking very handsome!!:lovestruck: ) and she is recommending a different food...I haven't heard of it, so I thought I would ask if anyone has any thoughts about it. He is currently on Euk Fish and Potatoe mixed with Wellness Fish and Potatoe and loves it, but has some itchy problems.
So the new food is.....Adult Fish and veggie and the ingredients are: Fish, ground brown rice, ground whole barley, fish meal, ground oats, canola oil (naturally preserved), sweet potato, ground whole flaxseed, inulin, yucca schidigera, salt, monosodium phosphate, potassium chloride, garlic, taurine, vitamin E, choline chloride, beta-carotene, chondroitin sulphate, glucosamine hydrochloride, spinach, kelp, broccoli, apples, blueberries, pears, bananas, vitamin A acetate, vitamin D3 supplement, vitamin B12 supplement, ferrous sulphate, zinc oxide, niacin supplement, calcium pantothenate, copper sulphate, manganous oxide, riboflavin supplement, thiamine hydrochloride, calcium iodate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folic acid, sodium selenite, natural flavor. Any feedback appreciated!!!! |
I'm glad that you're going to switch off of the Eukanuba! But if you want to make a good change & your canine kid is experiencing "itchies," you would be best feeding a grain-free line of food. Dogs have no physiological need for grains in the first place. Plus, the two biggest contributors to food hypersensitivities are the gluten found in grains and/or the proteins used within the foods.
Here are some sound grain-free lines, but remember you also need to ensure that the formulas contain the percentages of nutrients that you dog needs as well (it's not just about healthy ingredients): Orijen EVO RAW diets Nature's Variety (for toy, small, medium breeds) Wellness CORE *There are others too* |
Thanks! I would LOVE to get him on Orijen but there isn't any sold near where I live. So, I guess since he eats/likes the Wellness Fish and Potatoe the easiest changeover would be Wellness Core? I don't really like the idea of changing him, I am worried about his digestion and poops but I feel soooo bad about his tummy being so itchy and red at times.

You will have to be the one determine which food is ideal, based upon the ingredients & nutrient percentages (very important). Also consider adding some Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil to the daily regimen. It does wonders for all dogs, but especially those with allergies. For the digestive issues, Nzymes Bac-Pak-Plus is wonderful. It is a powder substance that is a probiotic & digestive enzyme all-in-one. Fabulous product to maintain proper GI functioning!! The Nzymes Ox-E-Drops is also great for dogs with allergy problems. You could also try GO! Natural Salmon and Oatmeal, I think it is available in Quebec. It is an alternate protein (salmon) with one protein one carb and one oil.

My :2cents:I like to feed Yogurt for the GI, I got that from this site, instead of something that has maybe been through many changes due to manufacturing. I have found a yogurt that is o% fat and no sugar. Sasha loves it and it helps to slow down her eating...I am also feeding her a sardine (packed in water) daily. pbp
