Well the City says it doesn't need anymore volunteers for now...so...I am going to put up some emergency water just in case and then I think I shall go do a quick grocery shop and a stop for some wine too!! Who knows what the next few days will bring.

How close are you to downtown, Csq?

CsqU4r3d June 21st, 2013 09:23 PM

I am about a 15 minute drive from the core. Glad I retired because I used to work down there for 15 years. A couple nephews live in the evacuation zones, but everyone I know that has been affected is staying with family or friends.

Glad your family is safe! I hope your nephews don't have too much flood damage. Have they ever been flooded before?

Looks like we're going to have a repeat of yesterday here. We've been getting about an inch of rain a day...and we're already 10 inches over for this time of year. No flooding--the woods are pretty good at siphening off water and so far the tributaries are handling the extra flow well--but we always lose a few culverts when it gets this wet, so will likely need to do some road patrol later today...

The one nephew has been living in Riverbend for about 10 years and never seen anything like this. The other nephew in the same area of the city actually just moved in on June 1st! They are both just down the hill and across the freeway from me about a 5 minute drive from my house. It is kind of surreal..the sun is shinning here, you look outside and would never know there is all that destruction all around. I will stay home today like officials are advising and stay off the roads. There are enough looky-loos out and about getting in the way!:wall:

Quite the thing isn't it!! People need to listen to authorities (some seem to think they need to defy them!) and stay out of the way. I think all the news stations are doing an excellent job of keeping everyone updated! There's more than enough live stuff to satisfy everyone!

Both nephews allowed to go back home last night...and neither of them had any flood damage! Yay!! The worst seems to be over here in Calgary. Thoughts and good wishes for those still downstream. Now the clean-up will begin...it will be a humungous job!
