Supplements for cat raw food
 

Am posting this for a coworker whose cat has chronic diarrhea and she wants to get her cat off orijen and on a natural diet.


She did use some of the raw that I make, but it has egg yolk in it, she wants just meat, bones and offal.

She is looking for the supplements (taurine, Vit B, Omega's, etc.) that can be added to raw. Does anybody know where in Canada she can order this online?

I use the NuCat vitamins with my raw food diet I make for my cat. Thanks SCM for the NuCat link. I have been buying it from my vets office for about $10 to $15 more than what I can buy it for on this site (shipping and exchange included). I think their Prozyme is cheaper as well. I will have to double check. I use the Prozyme once in a while for my cat in his raw food. He has a sensitive stomach and it helps him digest his food easier :thumbs up:thumbs up

What digestive issues was your cat having.

My co workers cat has chronic diarrhea and sometimes no control and will have some seepage :sad:. She is trying to find something that will help besides pred.

Well he has a sensitive stomach??? That's what the vet called it for years and fed him vet prescribed food forever. He had diarrhea and explosive stools for many of those years. The vet gave him medications as well but the diarrhea always came back. I honestly think it is the raw diet that got rid of his diarrhea. Because I was not giving him the Prozyme when I first started raw feeding. I would tell her to start off very simple with more bone then normal. And once his stools are more firmer for a while then start on her own meal plan. I started off with Urban Carnivore Whole Chicken carcass patties - nothing else. Once I was sure his stools were firm I started making my own raw diet. After about 7 months I consulted with my holistic vet that advocates raw feeding and we decided to add Prozyme as he was having pencil thin stools. This would help him digest his food better. I also have to add in more fibre veggies to help bulk his stools up. I guess after all the years of having diarrhea problems have weighed on his digestion. But he is doing really well on this raw diet. I just have to tweak it to help him along :thumbs up

Oh please do L4H.....I am a firm believer in raw feeding. And I truly believe that many cats would be much better off on a raw diet (or atleast grain free canned foods). But our vets are not getting the right education when it comes to our felines health. Their pocket books want to be filled by the pet food industry. It's sad - because so many kitties are suffering due to this lack of understanding. Unfortunately I was naive and listened to my vet for too many years feeding that crap without getting rid of my kitties issue. It always came back. I finally did my research on feline nutrition and feel I am feeding the best diet for my kitty. Many members on this forum (including you) have helped me understand my cats needs nutrition and health wise) much better then my vet ever did. Needless to say I got rid of this longtime vet over a year ago. And I have to say it was the best decision I have ever made regarding my cats. They both are much better off for it. I have found 3 wonderful vets that actually care about my kitties and not just their pocketbooks. (ooops - sorry for rambling :laughing:)

I have been raw feeding for a year and his diarrhea has not come back once :cloud9: and he has the most beautiful, shiniest soft fur ever. He has not had this since he was very young. Many people have been commenting on healthy he looks.

I know what you mean about raw feeding. I thought my kitties coats were wonderful when I changed them to quality canned, but holy smokes, on raw it is even better. Poor Puddles though, has to have 2 furcuts a year now, her fur has gotten so thick :eek:, just like when she was two years old :cloud9:.

I didn't think Jasper would ever get a winter coat, but this year since being on raw, it is coming in thicker.

Update:

My coworkers kitty has been on a raw diet with supplements added. It has helped but not enough.

She started her kitty on pumpkin (about a teaspoon each meal) and kitty has finally had a solid poop :thumbs up. After all this time, the kitty needed fiber, but no grains.
