#77 feature on cellphone, important

I just received this e-mail and wanted to share it with all of you.

HELLO ALL-
>VERY IMPORTANT
>I NEVER SEND EMAILS LIKE THIS BUT THIS IS IMPORTANT
>This is so important for all and you guys please
>tell your wife,mom,children & girlfriends this could
>save their life's, love to all> I knew about the
>red light on cars but not the #77 > >
>
> It was about 1 PM in the afternoon, and Lauren
>was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police
>car pulled up behind her and put his lights on.
>
>Lauren's parents have 4 children (high school
>and college age) and have always told them never to pull over for an
>unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather wait
>until they get a gas station, etc., so Lauren had actually listened to her
>parents advice, and promptly called #77 on her cell phone to tell
>the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away.
>
>She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car
>with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her.
>
>The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was
>and there weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he
> had back up already on the way.
>Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her.
>One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind.
>
>They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was
> a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.
>
> I never knew about the #77 Cell Phone Feature, but especially for a woman
>alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car.
>
>Apparently police have to respect your right to
>keep going to a "safe" place. You obviously need to make
>some signals that you acknowledge them
>
> (i.e. put on your hazard lights) or call #77 like
>Lauren did.
> Too bad the cell phone companies don't give you
> > this little bit of wonderful information.
>So, now it's your turn to let your friends know about #77. Send this to
>every woman you know, it may save a life.

Thank you

Wow, what a story!!! Thanks for sharing it, I'm going to tell my daughters and others.
Good thing that girl was aware.

since when does "#" work on a phone?

*cough*spam,spam*cough*

It was supposed to be * not #.

*77 is used in most if not all states and it connects you right to the state police.

that was a typo. sorry.

also if you dial 411 I was told they will connect you to the state police to.

The main important part of this story is NOT TO PULL OVER FOR AN UNMARKED CAR W/A RED LIGHT ON IT.

Call and tell the police that you won't pull over until you get to a gas station or another public place.

My hubby is a police officer and he told me the same thing. So I would take this advice. Like I said it was a typo it should have been * not #.

Yes, Itsme please do tell others, it could save their lives.

I'm not sure this works in Canada

You still should call 911 first

wAggie March 3rd, 2004 10:15 PM

1. don't pull over til you're in PUBLIC place.

2. call 911 if it's an emergency

;)

daisy, I got that spam a few days ago as well, funny how things simply fly over the net (and I didn't even forward it)
