Kitten losing leg today/MTL

A lady called about her 5 month old kitten. It was out roaming and made a bad jump (as kittens will!) and got her hind leg hung up on a fence.

The leg is so badly shattered that the orthopedic surgery would have cost 1400$, which this lady could not afford. She was offered the option of amputation for 300$, but decided a 3 legged cat wasn't for her. She wanted the kitten killed, but was talked into surrendering it instead.

We are having the leg amputated today, and then this baby will need foster/adoption. Cats do EXTREMELY well with 3 legs, and it probably will be barely noticeable and sure won't slow her down!

IF anyone is interested, or can help with vet bills, please call Debbie at (450) 424-0455

I'll have a pic of this baby tomorrow when I go see her.

Awe that is so sad and yet just one more example as to why people shouldn't adopt cats only to make them "outdoor" cats who roam about freely.

3-legged cats

I can vouch for that! The 3-legged supreme ruler of our household, Sunny, has no idea that he's really supposed to have 4 legs.

He flys up and down our stairs, runs, plays, leaps, lives up on our windowsils, and generally does just about anything a 4-legged cat can do. He's an active, playful monkey....I mean cat...

Cats have 3 legs and a spare. I'm sorry this little girl has lost her spare -- but I know she'll do just fine. We find our boy to be loving, playful, comical, clever (and bossy!!) - everything we wished for in a cat.

Do keep us posted on this kitten's progress, Lucky.

Well, good news. The kitty's owner called in tears, saying she had come up with the money to pay for the operation and wanted her cat back.

After much deliberation, it was decided to return the cat to her, with stern warnings about now NEVER letting it back outside with 3 legs.

Hopefully, it will all be okay!!!

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts.:)

Animals are amazing. They accept disabilities and make the best of them. They don't carry emotional baggage re the disability or spend time feeling sorry for themselves. In a few weeks this owner is going to be soooooo thankful she made this decision.

You are so right Glasslass! Animals live in the moment, and don't sit around yearning for what was.
