My 3 year old boy cat was put down

My cat started vomiting several days ago then the vomit stopped but he was getting weaker. I waited for several days because of the virus outbreak, hoping that he would be able to recover on his own.

When I finally took him to the hospital for emergency treatment, he was really very weak. But he still could walk on his own for couple of feet. I had hoped for hospitalize/surgery.

The doctor took image and blookwork. After that she called and suggested the best choice for the cat is to put him down. I was so shocked and thought that he was too bad to be rescued. So I trusted the doctor and agreed. She even did't mention about the possibility of surgery. Because of the precaution for virus, I was not allowed to go into the hospital. So all the communication was done by phone call.

4:15 admitted to the hospital, 4:55 was put down by the doctor. 1200 charged.

After I received the doctor's note, I started to question myself. Did he really have no possibility to survive the surgery? Have the doctor really tried hard enough to save his life? He was only 3, too young to give up.

I posted the doctor's note here.

I know there is nothing I can do to bring him back. Heart broken, regret....

I'm so sorry, causecausse :grouphug:

Please don't beat yourself up over this. You can only decide based on the information you're given and everyone is urging people to stay home unless absolutely necessary. But how do you know what's necessary without seeing the vet in the first place? It's a Catch 22 and a lot of people are being caught in similar situations.

I do think, given the renal failure and sepsis, that Pipi likely wouldn't have survived the surgery. The hardest part is that they didn't let you in the clinic to be with him. My heart aches for you.

I'm so sorry for your loss causecausse. Please accept my deepest condolences. I know how hard this is.....especially not being there :sorry:
You tried much harder than most and Pipi lived with your warmth and good vibes.
Around here we call that being a hero to your pet. :grouphug:

:rip: sweet Pipi :candle:
