Ant help

My parents house have an ant problem on the stone walk way up to the house. Anyone know how to get rid of them for good. perferably the natural, safe way. They have tried everything and nothing is working. I don't like putting out the traps or poison, due to it could affect other wildlife, outdoor cats, and the environment. I believe they are pavement ants. I know it takes different methods to kill different species of ants, since they all eat different stuff. thanks alot

The only way is to kill the queen and to do that, poison has to be taken back to her to work.

You can use a small jam jar with the lid closed tightly, then tape with duct tape and pierce a few small holes in the lid.

Recipe:

1 cup water
2 cups sugar
2 tablespoons boric acid.

You can use cotton balls at the bottom of the jar to soak up the liquid if you are concerned about an animal knocking over the jar and spilling the liquid out.

When talking to a pest control friend, he stated that was the only way they were able to eliminate ants colonies.

While I've never had a problem with the pesky little buggers, I found this recipe in my backyard garden book;

4-5 tbsp of cornmeal
3 tbsp of bacon grease
3 tbsp of baking powder
3 packages of baker's yeast

Mix the cornmeal and bacon grease into a paste, then add the baking powder and yeast. Dab the gooey mix on the sides of jar lids, and set them near the anthills/problem areas.

Hope your parents are successful NoahGrey! :thumbs up

Hi

I have used this recipe for years..it takes a while for it to kill all the hill but it does work.

It's like L4H but without the water.

I use a margarine dish or cottage cheese dish with small a hole or 2 cut into it, duct tape the lid so no animals can get at it.

Do 3 parts white sugar, dry, to 1 parts Borax laundry detergent. Mix it up and put it in the dish with a cover. Don't let any birds or kids get at it,,that's why tape the lid and only a hole an ant can get into.

I will not use insect killer spray in my house when I have a pet. I put cayenne pepper out.
