5 month old Manx kitten won't poop
 

I have a 5 month old Manx kitten, and she will absolutely not push her poop out. The vet told me that she may not have the nerves there to tell her that she needs to start pushing, but she goes to the litter box and squats like she's going to go, but she never does so I feel like she knows when she needs to go. I need help, please! If she doesn't start getting better, I have to give her up and I can't stand the thought of that! Thank you in advance!

Manx cats may have spinal abnormalities that result in abnormal/loss of colon function and reduced perineal tone because of the shorter spine.

Has the vet recommended pelvic xrays or ultrasound to determine if there are structural/muscular issues?

Did the vet do a manual poop evacuation?

Was a neurological exam recommended?

What treatment options were you given?

Honestly giving the kitten up is not going to solve/help the issue for her, the stress of being re-homed may even make it worse. I do hope you feel you can help her & not have to give her up. Good luck :goodvibes:

I was just going to say what Growler told you. I have Manx cats. My first Manx had issues when he got older with pooping. Did you get your kitten from a good breeder? There aren't many real Manx breeders left though. I found that acupuncture helped my boy. The less tail they have the more issues they can have. My current boy is 11 and hasn't shown any signs of poop issues, he's got a stumpy tail and has eaten a very high quality diet all his life, which I think has helped alot. I didn't know nearly as much with my first Manx and really good foods were harder to come by when he was a kitten.

I would honestly try to find a vet that knows acupuncture.
