My dog has severe nail biting habit!!!

I am an owner of a 17 month old female pomeranian. She has always had a problem with nail chewing, and I am really worried. We get her nails cut twice a month, but no matter how short her nails are she keeps chewing them. Now her nails are severly cracked and split. What can I do to stop her from chewing them:confused:

hello there :) i dont know much about dogs and nail biting, but are you able to paint the awful tasting stuff on their nails as they do for humans? think its called "stop that" or something like that

Did she always bite or is this just start happening? I don't know if this applies, but Winnie starts chewing on his elbow when she's bored or nervous. Did something change or is something giving your dog anxiety? If you get rid of the cause you might get rid of the biting.

No she isnt under any stress at all. She started biting her nails at about 4 months old, and thats when we started clipping her nails. We assumed they were too long and bothering her. But she still chews them, and sometimes they crack and become painful to her. She is an all around happy dog, and has a ton of toys and we pay alot of attention to her. Thats why I am so confused lol. The only other thing I think it could be is allergies, but to what I have no clue.

Can anyone help? I can't afford to spend almost 100$ just to have the vet look at her :confused:

It may be allergies and you may want to try changing her food to something that is more bland like a combination fish and potato or fish and rice for a few weeks. My dalmatian has had allergies since she was a puppy (she's 10 now) and chewed at her nails. Most vets sell a food that is recommended for dogs with allergies and this may be a less expensive route ... worth a try anyway. This also means no other food for her, no treats at all. It's hard to do but hopefully it will help her.

it could also be something on her feet, like if you use a certain cleaner on your floors. Or if you have treated wood anywhere.
