Daring thief takes pensioner's dog

A 78-year-old woman today warned dog owners not to leave their pets in the car after her own Tibetan spaniel was stolen.

Margaret Glover, from Banbridge, had stopped off at the Europe Hotel near Drogheda at 5pm on her way back from Dublin.

She had left the spaniel, called Lady, in the car with the window left slightly open.

When she returned two hours later she found that the car door had been opened and the dog was missing.

Ms Glover, who described the dog as her baby and companion, is deeply upset.

"I just want to advise people not to leave their pets in the car. I never thought this would happen.

"I just hope that no one is being cruel to her.

Although Ms Glover admitted that it would be difficult to sell the dog as it is such a rare breed, with only one other in Northern Ireland, she is worried someone would buy the dog.

"She has such a pretty face and has a tartan collar with her name and registration number on it.

"If anyone knows where she is or is offered Lady please, please let me know."

Garda in Drogheda are currently looking at video footage outside the hotel.

If anyone has any information they should contact police immediately.

This is so horrible, but I have to first ask, what were the weather conditions? Why did she leave her dog in the car for 2 hours? Did someone take it to rescue it?

That's awful! Well, at least she left the window open, and she actually cared for her pet...

I hope nothing bad happened to Lady...
