more loot from the butcher's
so next weekend we'll grind up another batch of raw for the kids (last batch was good for 3 weeks) - today we stocked up at the butchers, all we need to do is pick up a box of chicken frames next Friday and we're good to go.
40 lbs of beef hearts 15 lbs of beef kidneys (about 7 lbs will go in the mix) 5 lbs of beef liver total was $62 and we'll end up with a month's supply of ground raw this time for about $60 :highfive: so yeah... raw feeding can be quite economical if you put in a bit of homework and elbow grease :D |
so i haven't followed up on any of the raw diet discussions, but aren;t you supposed to feed MEAT? the heart is a muscle, is that good enough for the beans as opposed to a nice pork bum or beef steak.
|
yep, heart is considered a muscle meat, just like rump or chest or cheek :) it's not an organ meat like liver, kidneys, sweetbreads etc. Check out the raw grinding pictorial and you'll see how we prep everything... i'll soon post a few photos of the beanie's meals so you see what kind of variety they are getting :D

yeah i saw the pictorial. Lovely:thumbs up
I just wasn't sure. I want the best for the beanies darn it!:cloud9: |
he he he! don't fret, they get pork roasts a couple times per week (we eat cereal and peanut butter toast)
red meat is better for muscle & weigh gain than "white meat" so we try to include as much as possible without breaking the bank... and beef hearts are the cheapest beef muscle meat we can find ($0.99/lbs). however we add a bunch of other meats and goodies to their ground food so yeah... they're getting good stuff :dog: |
nice! :thumbs up
