Help: Second dog in the house

Hi,

My husband and I have a one year old Weim. She's great. We just adopted a second 4 year old male weim that needed to be rescued. He doesn't really like our current dog. It's only been 2 days and he is still adjusting. He growls at her when she gets too near.

But I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. If so, did you second dog adjust in a week, month or year?

Thanks
LexieGirl

Hi,

The chances are extremely high that the 2 dogs will adjust to each other...my experience....2-3 days to two weeks.

There are territiorial and dominance issues going on.

Keep an eye out for aggression. Neuter them if they aren't already neutered.

They should habituate within a short while.

Good luck,

Maude

The same thing happened with my dogs. I had a one year old golden retriever and then adopted a shepherd mix from the pound that was three months old. It took about 2-3 weeks before they could be civil with each other. I've had the two for over three years now and they are the best of friends.
