Dog Shredding Paper or other things

My dog is left home alone during the work day. She has taken to shredding anything she can find. She is an extremely high energy dog and I know for her it is energy release rather than separation anxiety. During spring to fall she received a lot of exercise, cycling 2-3 times a day and walks. Now that the ground is snow covered and the bike put away, she is only getting 2 walks a day and it is just not enough.

We have taken to putting everything shreddable away and closing all doors. This does the trick. I have just hired a dog walker to take her out during the work day when not at home. I am hoping for the winter months that the additional walk will help.

Any other suggestions? I am so tired of cleaning up shredded articles everytime I come home from work. I have bitter spray, but I can't spray every bit of toilet paper or newspaper in the house.

have you tried leaving her frozen kong treats? and the bitter apple, are you using it properly? most don't read the package and just spray it on stuff, unfortunately the smell makes them want to lick/chew whatever, you have to first spray your finger and wipe it in their mouth, it will foam and they will spit and drool, but that lets them know that the smell means yucky!! what type of dog is it?

Libby is a mixed breed, sheperd / border collie

I haven't had to use the bitter apple much, we usually dog proof the house before we leave. She mostly shreds paper if she can find it.

My boston terrier had a thing for shredding toilet paper. She doesn't do that anymore.......
