High protein food for cat with cancer
Dear members,
I'm looking for a very high quality food with HIGH protein for our cat that has advanced cancer. Any suggestions? and if you are from montreal? where can I get it. Thanks in advance! :grouphug: Marko |
Have you looked into Evo...high protein and very good high quality food. Good Luck.
|
Have you considered raw? There are even some commercially prepared raw patties that would be easy for your cat to eat. Healthy Paws is one I know of. Raw is very high in protien, and very healthy for animals with cancer.
:goodvibes: good luck with your cat, it's always so sad when our pets aren' well :goodvibes: |
Kitty Evo or Orijen would be best (so far, orijen has been harder to find). As for where... Well, I don't know how close you are to either a Reveil du Maitre or a Croque en Bol (they have way less selection...), but if neither is close, you can head up the 19 to the 440 in Laval. On René Laennec (between the 19 and the 15), there's Nutriville and they have everything good. :)

This site lists the grain free high protein foods that are available:

I did forget the Nature's Variety one too.. That one could be good because of the clay.. Nature's variety Raw Instinct |
thanks so much everyone!
Quick question - seems the higher protein foods are dry - do they also come in canned or wet? Our boy seems to prefer wet, Thanks again! marko |
Yup..you can get Evo in wet.
|
But Evo wet's ingredients say 12% protein - Evo dry 42%
What's up with that? I want to feed Zakky 42%....but he SERIOUSLY prefers wet. thx m |
Its because of all the water in the wet food. That takes up weight. If you took all the water away, you'd be left with a small pile of dried food. The percentage of protien in that smaller mass of food would be higher.
|
If your cat prefers wet, can you add water to the dry food and run it thru the blender? Just a thought. I use to do tat with one of my older cats who's teeth were very weak. He never seem to mind the blended stuff.
|
Evo dry has 10% moisture, while the canned has 78% moisture...
If you cross multiply... The dry has 50% protein on 90% not water and the canned has 12% protein on 22% not water... so the dry is 55% protein when dried and the wet is 54.5% protein when dried. Same thing.;) |
There's also Club K-9 at 6004 Sherbrooke in NDG, about 10 blocks west of Decarie. They carry a large variety of foods including Evo, dry and canned. They also deliver on weekdays.

It's the same one I found .....I don't know why my link didn't work. It shows all the wet and dry high protein/no grain foods that are available. :) |
I would go for the Innova Evo Canned --- it's high protein, low carb and grain free. Like Prin explained, the protein in the wet is equivalent to the dry...
