why would my cat pee 10 feet from the litter box?
 

I had another thread that either she or my dog is peeing on clothing left on the bathroom floor.

I think it must be the cat because it just happened while I was awake so that rules out the dog having overnight trouble.

She has indicators of CRF - but why would that make her pee elsewhere?

Her box is clean, and about 10 feet from where she is going.

She could have a UTI or something of the like - a trip to the vet is probably in order.

Other considerations: Did you recently switch your brand of litter? Or has anything changed in your household she would find disruptive?

No and no.

We fought over this litter change about a year and a half ago and even then she would pee in it but poop on the bathroom rugs in protest over the new litter.

I don't see why a UTI would make her pee that close to the box?

I'm afraid I can't explain it very well - but I have heard many times over that bladder infections, etc. often lead a cat to urinate in odd places. There are lots of kitty experts on the board who will be able to explain it better than me....I'm sure some will see your post in the morning!

When cats have a UTI, it is painful to pee and that pain is often associated with the litter box, cuz the last time they peed in the box it hurt, so they find somewhere that is softer to stand ie a rug, the bed etc thinking it won't hurt cuz they're not in the box but it still does, plus it's more comfortable to stand on that soft spot while trying to pee.

I would bring her in for a cystocentesis to get a sterile (:laughing:) urine sample so they can check not only for crystals but also bacteria, if that checks out fine then it's onto other possiblities

My dog responded immediately to vitamin c - I guess the acidic aspect of it. And I gave her aspirin. But I read I cannot do either for the cat. I am also thinking she will not drink the apple cider vinegar - hard enough to get the dog to take that.

PS she has none of the other symptoms of UTI. I watch her in the litter box and there is no straining or little bits coming out or anything. Just the going outside the box. She used her towel last night and I have a fresh one out.

Please do not give your pets any human meds unless it is cleared by your vet, some can be quite toxic.

I wonder if something happened in the litter box when she was peeing that made her not want to use it again :shrug:

I can't give you advices until you know what it is she really has. Getting her to a vet tomorrow is good :thumbs up

May I ask what kind of food she's on ?

She has a bladder infection. And her urine has a low specific gravity. He said her blood work didn't mean precurser to kidney failure like the vet that did the bloodwork said.....he said she HAS kidney disease or CRF or whatever.

Gave me another prescription food that she won't eat. Said her kidneys are probably worse today than they were 2 1/2 months ago when the BW was taken.

I started bawling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, for the bladder infection she got an antibiotic shot and one for pain.
