contemporary canadian female authors
 

ok...who can recommend a book by a contemporary CANADIAN female author?? I need a book that's somewhat on the lines of female empowerment:rolleyes:

Kinda like Anne of Green Gables but a contemporary book. Because I'm going to compare it to Anne of Green Gables for my midterm and I can't think of anything.

Anything by Margaret Atwood (is that too obvious a choice?), she always has some strong female characters.

Gail Anderson-Dargatz always has lady protagonists, and the stories are great to boot!!

i can't use margaret atwood because she's already being discussed in the course. I have to find my own author.

Naomi Klein I think is Canadian, but she writes political non-fiction. She empowers others. :D

My favorite Canadian female author: Margaret Laurence. I'm sure you'd enjoy [B]Jest of God[/B], [B]The Stone Angel[/B], and [B]The Diviners[/B]. Actually, there wasn't a single book of hers I didn't enjoy.

I personally think Barbara Gowdy is a great author too - Falling Angels is a great book.

I once took a course in University that only featured Female Canadian Authors Of Colour. :rolleyes: I figured all they needed was some disabled writers, and you'd have every minority down! It was a little much. (I didn't know that was the topic when I took it - the professors decide after you've already enroled).

I blocked it out a bit (the University of Guelph is a little feminist heavy) so I can't remember any of the authors we looked at, but surprisingly, there were a few!
