Needed information on dog paralasys
My 2 year old domerman underwent surgery on Wednsday to remove a forgin object from her intestines. She had swallowed a sock and they needed to remove 20cm of her intestines. She survived the surgery and is healing well from it, except when she awoke from the anasthetics she had hind leg paralasys. She would not move her hind legs at all. Since there has been a little improvement she can now raise herself and put some weight on her hind legs but her feet keep knuckeling over and she has no coordinated movements in the rear legs. I am told that she has the normal reflexes and that she responds to pain. She tries to walk but her hind legs are almost dragging behind her. The vet took X rays but can not see anything wrong with her that would be causing the paralasys. She was started on steroids yesterday to try to reduce any inflimation that may be putting pressure on nerves. I am looking to see if anyone knows what might have caused this, has experience with this type of situation, knows of treatment options or of any vets who specialize in this type of injury.
