Archer is such a beauty:lovestruck:
We had 38C of scorching humid heat today, spent most of the time in the pool..

breeze June 8th, 2011 04:35 PM

Do you ever put out some of that fur for the birds in spring? They love dog hair for lining their nests. :D

sometimes, the squirrels love it more than the birds

cpietra16 June 8th, 2011 05:28 PM

wow Breeze, you can knit a blanket or a sweater with all that fur....as long as you don't wear it in the rain....:D

:laughing::laughing::laughing:

on a side note do you know there is a place that you can mail leonberger's undercoats to them, to make a blanket??

hazelrunpack June 8th, 2011 06:28 PM

You know, there was a woman in this part of the state who used to knit dog-fur sweaters. She usually used the undercoat from golden retrievers, as I recall, but it looks like Leonberger undercoat would spin quite nicely, too! :D

Goldfields June 8th, 2011 08:43 PM

Breeze, your boy is a very handsome fellow, in coat or not. :thumbs up Is the undercoat easy to strip out ? With my shelties, if they have a soft outer coat it is easy, but if they have the correct harsh outer coat sometimes the undercoat lifts just off the surface of the skin and sticks there, quite hard to groom out, and if you make the fatal mistake of bathing them before getting out any loose undercoat it just forms a matt. Been there, done that , it took hours to finish the job.
Cattle Dogs on the other hand can literally drop the whole undercoat overnight, which our Cuddles did the night before the Royal(biggest show in the Southern hemisphere) :frustrated:  She still placed 5th out of 10 but what rotten timing! :D
I reckon Archer will be feeling wonderful after this groom.

breeze June 8th, 2011 08:49 PM

his coat is very thick, and the comb I have doesn't go all the way down to his skin.. the comb that does, is hard for me to hold so it takes me much longer..

if I forget to comb for a day or two it's harder :o
I normally brush/comb every day

I swear I studied that photo for a full minute trying to see an extra set of paws. WOW. I've heard people say they could make another pet out of the hair but I had no idea it was literally true.

He is a handsome fella. :)
