Seizure 5 days ago, odd behaviour the last 2 days

My husband and I have a 13 week old Alaskan Malamute puppy. Last Tuesday he had a seizure. We were told by the vet it was a "severe" seizure and not typical of a first time seizure in dogs. She kept him for the day and monitored him to see if he was going to have another, he did not. She sent him home with a catheter in his leg and a syringe of valium and a syringe of saline and said if he had another over the next 2-3 days to administer it and bring him back. Prior to the seizure he got terrified and just started running, then seized. He did not have another one that we were aware of. Over the last couple of days he has been acting very odd. He will get very scared, start looking around nervously and then just run to a corner. He will bite at his tail, growl, shake his head and seems as though he is seeing things that we are not. It lasts anywhere from 10 minutes to about 30 minutes. He yelps like he is in pain but once he comes out of whatever it is, he seems to be fine until the next episode. One thing that may be worth mentioning is he may have been stung by a wasp earlier today. He freaked out and started shaking his head all over and whining when it landed on him. A couple of minutes later he did what I mentioned above then was fine until tonight, when he went through the same thing, but this time lasted about 30 minutes. Now he is sleeping in the corner. Hopefully you may know what he is going through and whether or not we should take him to the animal hospital tonight. :(

My dog had 5 severe Grand mal seizures in a row due to pain from a gastric ulcer, Robyn, she hadn't had any previously. Now that you have more information about what's going on with the pup I'd have it back to the vet ASAP.

Our puppy seems to have alot of tummy troubles also. He has constant gas and very often, diarrhea. The vet ran a blood panel, but I think that was all. I'll contact her again right away.

Something else that might be useful is a video of an episode, Robyn. If you have a video camera, filming what's going on so the vet can see it may help in a diagnosis.

Thank you so much for the reply. I spoke with a vet today who said it wasn't epilepsy as puppies do not get that. She said when a puppy his age has seizures this severe it's very bad and we may want to consider putting him down... maybe some people think of dogs/animals as disposable, but my husband and I do not. He had another seizure tonight. The ER vet said the same, that it probably isn't good and may not be treatable, but at least she didn't tell us to put him down. We will love, take care of him and do whatever we can until it's his time. :(

That's a great idea, Hazel. Sorry, I didn't see your reply Rgeurts, I'm so sorry you got such bad news. You can only try to help him, and I think most of us know when it's time to let them go. I wish you luck, hoping for a miracle for him.
